Prototype Mk. 3
Kyle's Review of "Prototype Mk. 3" - 3/5
Interesting narrative and aesthetics, but not much else. 3/5 stars.

Contrary to what you'd expect from the Tron-inspired visuals, Prototype Mk. 3 mostly succeeds at being a narrative experience. The safe room graffiti in this campaign is engaging and occasionally very funny, even if it can be hard to read. Attempting to create any kind of narrative justification for the existence of these impossible digital environments was a bold move, and I think it paid off. Maybe I'm too generous, but the graffiti and visuals are what make this 3 stars instead of 2.

Unfortunately, that means the gameplay is... rough. Each level is mostly filled with gauntlet crescendos running in a straight line, and the breaks from this structure are frustrating and tedious. Items are lacking throughout, and Map 4 is also a wild spike in difficulty and length compared to all other levels.

Prototype Mk. 3 isn't bad, but it does feel like a prototype for the author's next campaign, Simplicity. Maybe play that instead?
