To my understanding, it seems that this does NOT work like a crafting station, where you add items anywhere and hit play.

It actually acts like a container and checks to see if there's a specific item inside it, similar to the Chaos Mouth with the keystone, before it creates an item?

I think it would be better to set it like a crafting station so that people could place more than one stack of food in there, as being limited to one stack on the upper left doesn't help in collecting a huge amount of resources.
