Secondly, some ideas for some buildings (once you get there), and some furniture. Since they live in a sort of 'toon' area, almost everything there is going to have eyes, even the buildings. You'll have two options for eyes for said buildings, either a 'side eye' to put on the front of it, or a set of 'background eyes' that can be placed on the wall of said building, or on some background tiles.
Another common item in toon homes would be the bed... a simple, black and white bed that, if possible, jumps up and down like a really old cartoon character, and also has eyes on the headboard. There could also be a cartoonist's table, essentially, just an inventor's table looking piece of furniture with an unfinished cartoon on it. The choices of said cartoon would be the ones in the picture here on the workshop, as well as a variant for the cartoonist's table that happens to be 'dancing', or jumping up and down, called 'Scribbles'. The tables that DO move will ALWAYS have 'Scribbles' as the toon being drawn on them. There could also sometimes be a framed cell of a toon on the wall near the cartoonist's table, with the toons being the same as the ones on the table, itself, minus 'Scribbles'... said pictures will sell for varying amounts of money, with some selling to a merchant for as low as 100 pixels, to as high as 1000 pixels. Another item in the home would be the fridge, which is actually two separate pieces of furniture, each with its own carrying capacity. Fridge (freezer), and fridge (fridge). There will almost always be either a 'Dinner', or just some ♥♥♥♥♥ poultry in there, and there's usually raw poultry and ice cream in the freezer part.
There could also be some freezers with eyes on them, and, again, if possible, a moving variant, as well. Next to the cartoonist's table in these homes would be the piano, 'cause at some point during animation's lifespan, people had to make their own music alongside the cartoon.
This would come in a normal and moving variant, with the normal one playing a decent, short piano tune, with the moving one playing an off-key version, just because it's not easy to play an actual moving instrument. Of course, some homes would also have a safe with better loot than the fridge, obviously... it would also include a 'money' loot, no, not pixels, paper money and coins that can be SOLD for varying amounts of pixels.
As for the third thing, a few ideas for some other buildings, and a general idea on how they'd react to other species, and items. First off, some buildings, starting with 'the studio', a place where a bunch of random toons gather around a toon in 'the boss'' set, and talk about how they're going to put on such and such kind of show. Since I know dialogue is randomized, that could lead to an implied confusion among the toons supposedly working there.
Another building could be the 'Speakeasy', while alcohol isn't prohibited among the toons, they occasionally have 'shows' that take place during a time that does, thus, they continue using speakeasies, which often have detectives or cops in there, as well as criminals. And... what town would be complete without a jail? It would be a fairly basic jail-looking building with, of course, only black and white blocks used in their construction, however, since none of the criminals being kept in the jails in a town are ACTUALLY criminals, if you 'release' them via the lever, the most you're going to get is them yelling at you about how they were supposed to be in there until their friend sprung them out, or something... more on the criminals later.
As for how the town generally reacts to other species, they like to entertain them by putting on a 'show', where they do things like an organized bank heist, or just some slapstick... said shows don't have to actually happen, since I know it would be hard to figure that out, just have them happen in the backstory, and have them refer to each other as 'actors', and their jobs as 'roles'.
As for a general idea on how they'd react to things... they barely even know that death exists as a real concept, thus, when looking at graves or tombs, they'd probably say something like 'Eh, he'll prolly be back in da next episode', or 'Hoo-wee, he's been gone for a while, huh? I bet they're bringin' him back as a zombie!', and they also probably won't recognize too much in the way of technology, for example, they might refer to an arcade game as a weird TV, or just be confused about how the video game console in the protectorate works. A note on why they don't think death is a thing, is simply because they're a very tough people... slapstick, up to and including a piano or anvil falling on their head, is completely harmless to them.
Now, one final thing, an idea for a dungeon. Basically, it'll be a GIANT jail with a bunch of hostile ACTUAL criminal toons, rather than toon 'actors' who are just 'playing' criminals, each of which will be armed with guns and or nightsticks, implying that they killed off the guards, or stole their stuff. They'll also be freely roaming around the place, and in contrast to the style in the towns, none of their furniture will be moving, or have eyes, and there will only be one pair of background eyes on the wall of the jail... which will have two black eyes, and a random giant bandage in the background. Also in stark contrast to the towns, themselves, the bricks in the jail will be a dark BLUE color, yes, actually in color, and some of the furniture around the place will have either splotches of, or will just be in color. All of the enemies in this dungeon will say something completely and utterly insane... I'd give an example, but my mind is drawing a blank, right now.
Sorry if it's a lot, but I just sort of got into it.
High-roller set: Bowler hat and tuxedo with flower in pocket, perhaps a diamond tipped walking stick as a craftable weapon.
There could also be a monochrome version of the parasol item that slows down falls.
For the mobster set there could be a craftable tommy gun with the round ammo cartridge and a small puff of smoke with each shot.
Toon Mech: Basically a miniature version of a steamboat bridge tower as the main body, like the iconic Steamboat Willie scene. Legs could be steel girder-like with oversized rivets. Thrusters might look like two firework shaped rockets on extended metal arms. Horn could be a ship's fog horn or a clown horn type sound.
Monster idea: Those wind up chattering teeth things as a captureable monster on toon planets.
The tier 1 armor as some may have found out, is Mickey mouse, whereas the teir 2-3 armor hasn't been made yet. The teir 2, 3, and 4 will be Dot, Wakko, and Yakko respectively.
The revive animation will be a pencil making a scribble then erasing to reveal your toon.
The ship pet will have a few variations of both a cat and dog. The dog looking like Betty Boop's dog Pudgy, and the cat looking kinda like the kittens also in Betty Boop. (Episode "We did it")
There will be an alt toon race that'll be in Technicolor that will resemble characters from toon town with pastel colors and such (I wasn't certain I would do it but now I will because it was mentioned)
I also plan on adding some detailed lore later on but for now I'm still developing it. Looking at the second to last segment in RandomThing's post, they actually have a similar idea to what I'm planning.
I guess that's it for now... Not as much as I thought but this way people can know what to look forward to later on
I wanna say goofy's missing, [yes long ears, but goofy's got a white middle for both ears].
I would think the ship, going for a bendy approach would have a wood studio with 4 types; wooden planks, tattered wooden planks, ink splotched wooden planks, and pure ink block.
Ink splotches teleporter? imagine the S.A.I.L being a black ink splotched AI. How to get ink?
Combine oil with black dye. Ink thick enough to reshape. Throw in a little clay and some wood and you can make a crafting table for using this ink. As for white blocks?
No idea.
I guess combine oil and white dye. You want an ore, you say? Throw some of this ink mixture on coal. Or a gold piece. Makes gold useable in this mod.
Bosses you say? make a cuphead inspired boss.
Jails a good idea, But a writing studio with some dead artists, or trapped ones. Special quests if you happen to find a inkfilled studio [dungeon], or not, but there's one in the world, you will tell by getting specific quests to save artists or writers or cartoonists from their written alive captors.
Dungeon: inkfilled studio
Difficulty: medium
Traps: loads of pits with planks that can break. If you find a certain pickaxe in the studio, you can break the blocks. [ooh and you get a mining upgrade that requires this pickaxe to unlock breaking these blocks]
Ink: oil and poison combined and the ink enemies can walk normal speed in it.
Drops: above comments, you can even find an inkmachine [decoration] and maybe a desk [crafting]
Pickaxe drops are rare.
Ink merchants also can sell em, but getting em from dungeons are more common.
I'm browsing through the comments. [looking to add]
One should be B&W (like you have right now.) and one should be in color (that we're mostly familiar of since the Modern Mickey Cartoons showed up in the early 90s to late 2000s.) And have these two have slightly different stats with all kinds of custom features.
The color version of these toons, well have their ship as like a Mickey Mouse-esque spaceship that you find in a early 2000s Disney movie with a hidden lucky emblem if you look really close to it. But also have S.A.I.L that has the modern Mickey Mouse look you find in, i.e Runaway Brain or The Prince and the Pauper (Both starring Mickey Mouse in there, i'm sure.)
Their starting weapons should be colored and has a Shield that has a different attack animation, a sword that has four hits, and a staff that fires a homing ball of magic. (It references Kingdom Hearts in a way.)
But what about their Tiered Armor of course? Well, their armor is their colored outfits that resemble from Modern Disney Cartoons till at Tier 4-6 which it'll start to look like KH themed as well. Their armor names should resemble the wearer's name from any kind of modern short/movie/game that starred in Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, or Goofy etc.
Oh and what about Frackin' Races for these Color variant toons?
Diet: Any, obviously they're Toons. They can't get sick from anything but Sulfuric Dip, right?
+ 15% HP
+ 5% Energy
+ 50% Cosmic Resist
+ 40% Ice Resist
+ 14% Fire Resist
Any Lush, Forest, Rainforest, Oceanic, and Savanna biomes gets an extra 15% Energy and HP with a 5% Speed Boost.
---
Weaknesses:
When submerged in Sulfuric Acid, the acid damage increases by 2x and you'll lose -10% defense.
-40% Shadow Resist
-35% Electric Resist
-10% Poison Resist
In Sulfuric biomes, you'll lose -20% HP and Energy and -5 defense.
Anyways, what do you think? Should you tweak their stats to make it more sense?
Another dungeon idea: careless wandering through a dangerous construction site with lethal machinery.
In the armor part design i think you can based on the Ned Kelly armor, WW1 armor experiments (gas masks included) and homemade armors.
About the architecture it can be a combination of the toon buildings of that cartoons, with Art Deco and other architecture tendecies from the 1920's and 1930's (even a litlle from the 1940's and 1910's).
For projectile weapons(firearms), obviously you can based on the interwar weaponary era (Thompson submachine-guns, doble-barrel shotguns, revolvers like the Colt 1917...) with a toon twist.
For the clothing i think you can inspire really in the fashion of the time period itself, apart of the cartoons of the era, and even used some uniforms from soldiers and police officers from that time.
For the background of the race, I think you can also be inspired in the historical period of that cartoons are from (the political instability, the Prohibition, the Great Depression, the racial tensions...) and use elements from other medias from that period too(pulp novels, radio serials, comics, movies of diferent genres...).
And even you can also add some Dieselpunk vibes in the concept of the race.
Also for the dungeons part you can make ink monsters of diferent kind (like in Bendy).
-A big bomb (the typical cartoon one which is a black ball with a fuse), with high explosive power, but you need to use both hands and have a short throw distance.
-A bottle of ink with stun effects.
-Another type of grenades based on a cartoonish designs of the MKII grenade, a dinamite stick or the Stielhandgranate(or this last one can be used like a explosive melee weapon like the "Ullapool Caber" from tf2).
-A flamethrower weapon which shoot ink instead of fire.
-A weapon which shoots anvils, small pianos, sinks, safe boxes or calibrated weights.
-A raygun like the one you can see on Sci-fi serials and comics from that period.
For the clothing part:
- A horse collar would be an interesting idea to use(a nod to Horace Horsecollar).
-Some helmet from the period could be a nice idea too(Broodie helmet, the Stahlhelm or the Pickelhaube, Salakot, Custodian helmet, construction or miner helmets...), they're a lot of good options.
-Dresses based on Flappers or similar tendencies.
-For mobsters, a striped suit of course, but with also a less glamorous versions, like one on undershirt with a flat cap.
-Bowler, Boater, Homburg and Fedoras would also be a good option for headbear.
-A Retro-Sci-fi costume, with a jetpack.
I actually have some outfits like this done I just haven't put them in yet. I actually have been doing some research on the early 1900s for ideas. I definitely plan on putting in more outfits in the future for sure, monochrome and color. I read what you had said before as well and have been looking into some dieselpunk themes and such. As for weapons and such I have a reference picture of some ww2 guns that I plan to add. I would also love to figure out how to add some cars as well. Like the model T or something. I do love the cartoony bomb idea lol I hadn't thought of that. I'll have to try that.
