not sure if this is a meme or not, but here goes.

cops have a really ♥♥♥♥♥♥, violent history when it comes to the queer community, as they do with nearly all marginalized groups. pride month is june because the stonewall inn riot happened june 28th 1969 as a response to a targeted police raid against an LGBTQ savehaven. there were plenty other police raids like it, up and down the 1960's police committed brutality against the community, conducted routine raids of LGBTQ nightclubs, etc. the uprising at stonewall is called the birthplace of gay power because, well, it kinda was.

having cops at pride ignores this long history of persecution and violence against the LGBTQ community and flies in the face of it's origins. even nowadays, LGBTQ individuals, especially black individuals and people of color, are targeted by police.

less than 10 years ago a black trans woman named cece mcdonald was arrested and charged with murder for defending herself against a hate crime after a group of white cisgender people started calling her homophobic, racist, and transphobic slurs. she stood her ground, a woman smashed a glass against her face and she wound up needing scissors for the wound. when she tried to leave the area, she was approached by a man and defended herself with a pair of scissors, resulting in the man's death. she was charged with second degree murder after taking a plea bargain. she spent just over a year and a half in two men's prisons and was released only because people, rightfully, got upset about it.

in 2015, the national center for transgender equality put out a survey and found that 58% of the survery's respondents had been harassed and mistreated by police, usually including ♥♥♥♥ like being deadnamed, intentionally misgendered, or verbal/physical/sexual assault. a few even reported being forced to engage in sexual acts with officers in order to avoid being arrested. most were trans women of color who the cops thought were sex workers, and 9/10 who actually do sex work, or were assumed to be doing sex work, say they were harassed, attacked, sexually assaulted or mistreated in some other way by police. 57% were uncomfortable asking the police for help.

tldr cops are ♥♥♥♥♥♥ to LGBTQ people, especially trans people of color, and officers trying to pinkwash their history is really, really ♥♥♥♥♥♥. no cops at pride.
