By my understanding yes its useless now really as a dino fully evolved ( an alpha) will be stronger than a fully mutated vanilla counterpart. someone correct me if i'm wrong. But this is the answer i got when i asked a similar question on discord.

Thanks for the reply man. Breeding is a big part of the game and something that I enjoy, wonder if they can mix the breeding in somehow
