In case of a switch, everything will keep working automatically or will be necessary to tweak things manually?
A BETA 1.22 is currently in the works on github, with many more changes and improvements. When it is made public, this BETA will update first. You don't need to switch back-forth between the stable and BETA versions, as the BETA has all the functionality of the stable - just with more features requiring widespread testing.
This testing is an extra step to protect peoples games, and is an extra step before determining those features are 'stable'. Personally I always use the BETA for playing so that I can give the required feedback to improve it, before it gets to stable.
~ Hope that was helpful :)
[EDIT] : The BETA is now in version 1.22 or higher
