Becoming a lich

I used the 1mil denars from the dragon slaying quest to become a lich, but I haven't noticed any difference being a lich has made other than aesthetics.
Does anyone know if being a lich has a meaningful impact on gameplay that I have yet to notice or have I just spent a lot of money to look undead?
