Ship Suggestions/Art Suggestions
Hey folks! Have an idea for a new ship type, or did you feel a certain graphic would suit a ship better?

Tell me about it!

Here's my thing: I can't be changing the art around on the current ships or it'll confuse people, myself included. What I CAN do is introduce new ships with unique roles to fill (even if that role is already currently being served.) For instance, I'm probably going to introduce another ship that's designed for small, quick excersions, with little cargo room.

So, keep this in mind. What sort of ship would you like to see?

Is there a theme you'd like to see?

I've already gotten so many requests, like an Orca theme'd ship, Star Wars, and more. Creating alternative patches for these themes would be easy and the best move, being able to just remask any of the existing shuttles with new graphics.

The possibilities are endless! Thanks for the tutorial on how to do it ourselves. Thinking about it, I was just wondering about the possibility of implementing alternate graphics/colour schemes for each ship type, based on the type of "material" used... even different tiers of quality/strength too... similar to vanilla blocks? Always been a fan of the FTL ship art style, and after browsing google with the wide variety of custom versions made by other people, I was wondering if such a thing might be a viable method of swapping graphics. More importantly, I imagine it might become complicated quickly, and am curious to know if a "how-to" might be a good addition to the tutorial?

It's pretty easy technically to do type-specific coloring, but it would take a lot of time to actually make. Each type of material would require it's own def to extend from a base def.

Would be nice if later on the textures for the ships were changed to fit more with the Rimworld art-style instead of being a realistic sprite. I am sure there are artists out there who might be interested. :summer2019vehiclecorgi:

I would LOVE if someone made up some vanilla-looking sprites. If they matched the spirit of the mod I'd switch right away.

some ship suggestions since im not to savvy with coding
#1 the U-wing- small transport more for raiding and transport
#2 the serenity from firefly cargo ship
#3the shuttle from star trek transport
#4 the t-47 snowspeeder for quick transport

Move it to the ship tab? Having an extra tab for a 3 building is kinda cluttered

If you ever want to include early industrial blimps, I found 2 free artworks with transparency layer who could kinda fit rimworld.

Whoa those are neat! You know, I do want to put in an airship style vehicle. Sadly I don't think these sprites would work, but I'll tell you why.

Rimworld has this sort of... semi-isometric perspective. It's actually top down, but some of the art sprites have a bit of a psuedo forced perspective.

But for airships we really need top down graphics.

Ah I see, crap xD Thanks for the explanation, I did see some top down ones but they were generally ugly :steamfacepalm:

Damn :( Well I'll keep looking, you keep looking, we'll find one that works. My fear is they are all gonna be... big bubbles, as the blimp is kinda in the way lol

Yeah, and then top down airships often do away with the balloon to become some winged boats flying by magic xD
Except maybe helicopter like ones, like this FFV airship sprite : https://www.spriters-resource.com/resources/sheets/5/5172.png

Sadly I'm not sure it would fit rimworld either :')

Of all the existing 'ship' mods I have to say i like your graphics the best since you used directly top down sprites so they dont look wonky in the games perspective (its what kept me from using these mods until now), that said I do agree with the people that have already brought it up that the models you use do look a little too detailed compared to rimworlds vanilla aesthetic. That said, I just want to link you to Rikiki's MiningCo. Spaceship mod. It is not a 'ship' mod like yours but it does add AI ships and I have to say I think that they serve as great examples of ships that have a vanilla aesthetic and would serve as a good reference if you haven't already seen them.
