Edit: posted this in a comment thinking you didn't have a bug thing, deleted it and put it here lol.
Following standard procedure:
Did you have this on a caves or non caves world?
Did you have any other mods active?
Did you happen to see a crash log pop up when this happened? And if so can you post it here?
just did a test while writing this on a new world with ONLY this mod enabled, wasn't able to reproduce it, but it wasn't the same setup either. what had happened to cause the crash, summer time, very hot part of it, i had Scaled flooring placed, made a torch, placed where the scaled flooring was in my base as i was seeing what they looked like and did, i didn't know what would happen. as soon as i put the green gem in, it started growing things lol, i freaked and quickly hammered it lol. but instead of all disappearing like it did on the test world, a couple of ferns stayed but were... dead i think or wilted from the heat. so every time i went to pick them, it crashed the server, i then couldn't move and a few seconds later the game would say lost connection to server.
i actually have never seen a crash log... "popup" unless you mean in the directories where they normally show. don't know where the crash logs are specific for mod related stuff unless it's the... "client_log.txt" in the Documents locations and then the server one, being in a numbered folder>cluster>Master & caves folder's named "Server_log.txt"
never actually helped before on mods with this game lol. i also did rollback my game that i had this issue on before i built the torches.
also, side not. i had issues with another mod "Stackable Boats" who the author got back to me promptly and apparently there is a Klei side bug going on. this may be a similar issue for what i'm experiencing here also since it's the exact same way the server crashes then client loses connection. not sure if it'd also apply to this instance, or if i just found a specific way that causes an issue lol.
what that modder wrote to me...
@BOBCAMO: tested it yes it was caused by the recent game updates. And no, it is not a bug at my side, it is a bug from the game. The only reason why it does not happen without the mod, is because it is kind of inactive wrong code. so the code is wrong, but is never called without my mod.
https://forums.kleientertainment.com/klei-bug-tracker/dont-starve-together/non-existing-function-in-anchorlua-component-r23046/
I only can overwrite this faulty game code in an update of the mod.. but I guess it is better to wait for an official fix by Klei.
sorry for the lengthy reply.

Edit: Fixed and updated.
As far as I can tell it only happens with the red gem version.
If you can tell me what excactly you were doing at the time you saw these issues, examples like, its an old torch that used to have x gem in it, or i was fighting x monster near water or edge biome, or any other information of note, like how far away the gem torch was to the things you wanted to click on, it can help me ascertain where there may be a problem.
Thank you for your report and i will look into it.
Thank you for using my mod, and i hope you get enjoyment out of it.
Tell your friends, tell your family, tell your gym teacher to try my mod!
So I've done more testing into this issue. It seems like it only happens at night when the only light is the magic torch (red gem). If you put down a campfire, hold a torch or lantern it goes away temporarily. My guess is the game doesn't think there is light for the purposes of interacting with stuff.
