Libertarian Socialism is the collective term for socialist ideologies which are anti-authoritarian and anti-statist ideologies. They reject the Marxist idea of a state controlled economy.

Many Libertarian Socialists are Anarchists, and reject the state entirely. However there are a few ideologies, like Left-Minarchism, which believe in a heavily small national government, giving power preferably to the state and local governments within it.

In the 60s, economist Murray Rothbard began a campaign of taking over the word Libertarian to mean Anti-authoritarian free-market capitalism. And it worked, as now when you see "Libertarian" you think of free-market capitalism.
