Units
Shaman. Rather than making it an early ranged unit, you might consider making it a healing unit. Provides extra healing (& possibly morale) to adjacent units and can also repair pillaged resources. Stackable like a Great Person. That would keep it a relevant unit clear into the modern era when it could upgrade to a medic.

Sounds like a good idea. Not familiar with the complexities of putting this into action, but such a unit should have a good DEFENSIVE ability to keep it alive and prevent its easy capture {unlike a "Great Person" with 0 defense}.

I agree that it should have some defensive value, but I'd keep it small. There's a "combat medic" (I may not have the title right) mod out there for reference. I'd add the "repair" ability that workers have. I don't think the coding would be very difficult. You could rationalize that in later eras, the shamans would be called priests or healers or whatnot. Healing the land gives them a bit of a mystical flavor and makes the unit unique. That probably shouldn't extend to the medic.
