Suggestions
Saw a few people offering suggestions for the mod author, decided to post a discussion so people can share their ideas in one place.

Some suggestions:
Remove sanity loss inside the house at night?
Perhaps a way to change or turn off the light/close the window curtain?

I'd love to see what other people come up with. :)

I would like the ability to add more rooms next to one another. The Mushroom house looks to have a map of it's own, and not part of the cave or forest map. I came to this realization after I teleported past the wall, and was able to walk indefinitely. Don't know how this 3rd map was accomplished, but figured it would be nice to have more rooms to set up needed items for a base. Each room would have a seperate control for floor and wall skins, to add vararity. Would also be nice if someone can add their own art templates for floor and walls too.
Been playing a few weeks now. I have a question as something has been irking me about the inside of the mushroom house, that I have yet to pinpoint. As I said above, I noticed this uses its own map. Would be nice if teleports could be used to connect one mushroom house to another, especially if friends houses are far apart. Oops. Forgot to mention what was irking me. I can hear when Im inside a mushroom house when monsters like hounds are outside. Whats driving me batty is the fact Im in super god mode on both my servers. I know it shuts off when entering and leaving a mushroom house, so what is happening is definately not godmode not being on. Even after several incidents, I found godmode was on, so not sure what is causing this, except for one occurrence, where I found a shadow monster inside my house. Anyway, despite super god mode being on, I would go afk for 2 to 3 minutes, come back to find myself dead and in ghost forn, with all my belongings on the ground. When I enter super godmode in the control panel, itngives message deactivated, which tells me it was active at the time I died. I enter it again and resurrect. After resurrection, I enter supergodmode again to turn it back on. Whats driving me batty, is wbat on earth is overriding God mode and killing me in the mushroom homes?

Honestly, i'd like to see more houses. Like wooden houses for example.

Kind of late reply. But I think I know how mushroom houses work. Mushroom houses are actually built off the screen (off the world map). In the black parts of the map. There are extra black spaces on the map that allows the Mushroom houses to "work". If you stay in the mushroom houses for a long time, monsters will eventually get in. An instance is when I copied hound boss and put hound boss in the mushroom house. When hound boss called the lesser hounds, it took a while for them to actually appear in the mushroom house. They would jump off the wall in "wet" form and would take a few seconds to actually get into the mushroom floor platform. This suggests that the lesser hounds had to go through water to get inside the mushroom house. It makes sense that they would also be "wet" because beyond the black parts of the world map is water or waterfall.

I know the inside of the mushroom house is built in the black parts of the world map because I actually got stuck there in one of my worlds. For some reason, I couldn't open the door anymore and I had the move object mod installed. So I moved myself around and found out that I was actually walking in the black parts of the world map. Took me a while to move myself to the water part of the world. When I did this, I found out that I broke my world since there was no trees or any kind of objects in my world map anymore. So I had to start from new.

Using another mapping mod, it showed the map to be entirely independent from the outdoor map. Teleporting between mushroom homes from side seemed simple, but trying to teleport from inside a mushroom home, to outside, would not work unless I used admin features. Be interesting to hear what the writer has to say about the map.

There's mods like the "moving objects" one that you can use to actually move yourself outside of the house inside the black areas. I don't know how that happened, but when I loaded up one of my saved files, I appeared in the black parts and I couldn't get back into the house. When I used the "moving objects" mod, it showed that I was actually way way outside of the world map, in the black parts of it. Eventually, monsters can get into the mushroom houses, but it's very unlikely they can. Try spawning a hound boss inside of one and let him call hounds to him. Within 10 minutes, you can actually start seeing hounds try to jump into the mushroom house while you're in the house with the hound boss. The hounds will be in the black parts of the mushroom houses, but will attempt to get into the house itself. They will eventually get in though and attack you. They'll also have the "wet" status since they're traveling from the world map through the waters and pass the waterfalls and into the black areas of the world map to get to inside your mushroom house. I can record a video demonstrating that if you want.

Would be interesting too to hear what the author of the mod has to say.

The crazy house should act like a greenhouse for any farms placed in it.
Farms inside will grow in winter and be immune to withering in summer.
Could you make a mansion?

I'd love to see a sort of haunted looking house! Maybe little cobwebs here and there, cute ghosts, jack-o-lanterns on vines chandelier for light maybe? Could have cute Halloween decorations too! And bats!

Would be cool to see "classic" variation of the house design
From Hamlet for example, since I found these current designs little bit off the overall style of the game. I don't say they are bad, I just prefer classic ones and I wish for one here since it is the best house mod so far.

Or I could possibly reskin myself one of the houses

Recipe example:
15-20 golden nuggets
7 boards
7 cut stone

It'd be nice to see this updated and/or forked with additional coding from hamlet houses so that it can support multiple rooms and hamlet decor. It's a very useful mod, but I also like the styles and room expansions the hamlet houses have, but the only way to get them in DST as of right now is Tropical Experience which is very laggy and poorly optimized.

Awesome mod!, Would you be able to have it work with characters from the playable pets mods? currently they cant seem to enter the houses at all, i think that would be cool ^-^

I think this mod uses some code from the Hamlet DLC from the original DS, so adding more rooms is definitely an option. The seperate map that the other guy was talking about was the player being teleported to a room outside the original map, as least I think.

I have a some ideas, i hope they can inspire you in some way... What if houses when damaged by hounds, fire or even regular use, causes sanity loss or hunger loss inside and around (like burned forest), or make perishables decompose faster around, until the house gets repaired with repair kits o house pieces (domestic manteinance tab), in case of fire, small flames and/or smoke could start inside to let know that fire is attacking the house outside (as in your myth "WhiteBone fog skill"), or maybe an alarm like flingomatic (in the clock house)... Another is, what if Mushroom house can be usable only during fall-spring-winter but in summer it shrinks (like actual mushrooms in the game or Tadstool boss when is asleep), same with other houses... ie Clock house must be repaired regularly or it will fall appart (like when you hammer a chest full of stuff) or it could have some inner machinery wich acts like an Alchemy Engine (similar to the Sci house-police booth)... Farm house could spawn some slurtles which can be useful (crops grow faster, more,..) for farms built inside but aggressive to players, from time to time some sporecaps (Toadstool) could grow and if not chopped can spoil crops... Scientific House could work as a giant power station for buildings around it, some themed lights ("Gorge Lights" mod look great with it). Anyways, I really enjoy your work and congratulate you.
bumping this because spooky houses are my jam.

maybe add a pumpkin house too.
