Extender Issues
Having issues with Norbyte's Extender? Try the following before posting here:
  • Make sure the DXGI.dll file (not the .zip!) is in Steam/Steamapps/Common/Divinity Original Sin 2/DefEd/bin
  • Try restarting your game
  • Try restarting your PC
  • Ensure you're running v3.6.51.1333 or later of Divinity: Original Sin 2 (you can check in the main menu at the bottom right)
  • Try creating a firewall exception folder for Divinity Original Sin 2
  • Try running EoCapp.exe as administrator

Running Steam Proton? Try this
Instructions courtesy of The Biblical Satan. Probably not literally.

1. Download DLL from source and place in /DefED/bin
2. Open wine settings for the game using winetricks or protontricks (ex "protontricks -c winecfg 435150")
3. Add a new DLL override, select "dxgi" with the source as "native"
4. First run will give the "Could not unzip Update.ZIP" error. Go to the folder shown in the error and extract the individual files within the Update folder into /Application Data/OsirisExtender

Just curious, but how do we know the extender is working or not? Is there some sort of error that shows or do certain features just not work in game?

Before I got mine working right I was getting an error weather loading an old save or making a new game that essentially said that the game was having trouble making a seed (the word 'story' was used) and that one of my mods may be the cause.

As you said, it gives the error "Failed to create a working story".
is there a way to install this for mac? the installation path doesn't exist on the mac version :\

You should have a Divinity - Original Sin 2/DefEd folder somewhere. Put it there. But yeah, the extender is designed for use on windows, so I don't know if it can work...
There isn't a /DefEd folder at all! Bummer :\

I keep getting crashes during the bridge fight in driftwood with the two dogs. It seems pretty random, sometimes crashing after loading the save or a moment later. I didn't even use any abilities, it crashes even when I'm looking at the inventory. After the crash i get the script extender pop-up to report the crash. I did get other crashes earlier in the game but it was always during loading screen after I tried to turn on the new gift bag additions but there was no extender pop-up then. I disabled DU and the crash kept occurring until i removed the extender as well and then finished the fight without issues.

This same thing was happening to my friend and I but at the fight where you retrieve Sir Withermoore's soul jar. Once the fight starts I can go through my turn fine but once he tries to go the game crashes and the script extender pop up appears to report the crash. Tried reloading an earlier save but the same thing happened anyways once we got to that point again.

I've started having Script Extender Crashes in the Nameless Isle. It seemed to be happening at random at first but I've now got it to reliably crash when I loot a body with Hydro and Aero books in it.

Okay so now I'm getting the same crashes whenever I open a merchant's tab and hover the cursor over an item. Pretty gamebreaking. Such a shame coz I really like the mod.

I crash now whenever I load into my save, open my inventory and hover over a Hydro or Aero book.

The tooltip hover crash should be fixed now, just restart the game to make sure it auto-updates.
Salv 25 Jan, 2020 @ 2:41am
No more crashes so far, thank you.

So we uninstalled the mod, finished the fight, reinstalled it and avoided the crash altogether it seems. Not sure if the update is responsible though.

So I got the mod working fine on Windows 10 LTSC.

But for whatever reason, despite trying everything I could think of to get the DLL noticed by Steam Proton on Linux, it just will not load properly. Is there anything I can do to get it working on there? DOS2 on Linux without the script extender has loading times in the range of at least 15+ minutes, which is exceedingly painful, so figuring out how to get the DLL to properly hook is pretty frickin vital to play on Linux using Steam Proton.

Given how the game works fine once actually loaded, I'm loathe to toss D:OS2 into my "Only works on Windows" category, but the 15+ minute load times REALLY make me tempted to do exactly that. Any method to get Proton to notice the script extender and actually utilize it wuld be appreciated.
