Dawn of Man

Dawn of Man

Realistic Stone Age
Fauna and Flora bug?
Hi there!

First of all I would like to thank you for the mod, it seems very interesting so far.

I've decided to start at Nile Delta map to get aquainted with mod concepts, and I've found that animals don't heal and don't breed (exept for the Rhinos) and new trees don't grow.

Here's what I've found: in the first year I've got a herd of boars, a herd of ibex's and a herd of mouflons on the map.

In the first year of playing youngsters of Ibexes were killed by wolf pack and youngsters of wild boars were damaged. Now I've reached the Legendary Ruler milestone, and the situation I still have the same situation.

If that's not a bug, how realistic is that in 10 years 3 adult ibexes (one male, 2 females) didn't breed and 2 piglets didn't heal and grow up? And there was no new herds migrating to the area?

Same question with the trees. I do agree, that growth rate in basic game was a bit high, compared to the real one, but once again: no new trees in 10 years?

UPD: Double checked the tree growth - they actually DO appear, but i still didn't see their smallest forms, but maybe that's just me. Still 200% sure about the animal problem.

Regarding wild trees (not planted trees), they will regrow after a few years if cut, and no building was built in that place. But no additional trees will grow; you will never have more than at the start of the map. This is in the base-game, and cannot be changed through modding, as far as I know. In reality, forests do not usually expand so quickly just in a few decades, so it's good enough.

Regarding wild animals, it is the same situation: you will always end up with mostly the same number of animals of a particular specie, as they were at the beginning of the map. This is how the base-game works, I only changed the number of animals of each specie at the start of the map. If you or predators hunt them and reduce their numbers, new ones will "migrate" in your region, presumably from neighboring regions. I still think it is realistic enough, since, while the animals might breed, they are also killed by predators, disease, old age, etc. so their numbers can be relatively the same for a few decades, just like in real life.
