Hey Epoch! You can't hide from me ;)
First of all, love the skin, it's really good for a first entry!
Second, I actually was taking down some observations the other day and it turns out the ropalolyst's "red" areas actually do have level of metal-like reflection, but its material is extremely rough which decreases the reflectivity or shininess of it. Another way to perhaps make the skin look more in line is decrease the saturation of the red- Sentients' red bits are actually a little bit skewed towards the orange or brown side as opposed to a ruby red. Its tricky to land on the exact right colour, I've been struggling with getting that correct for ages.
Anyways, the base colouring is a bit arbitrary because players are gonna express their own customization anyways :P
All in all though, fantastic work. I encourage you to not stop working on the skin- keep refining it as you practice your 3D modelling! Can't wait to see future stuff! :D
Hey Jado!
I'm glad you like it! Hmm interesting. I'll have to look into that! Thank you for the suggestions! They will definitely help me improve the skin! I definitely hope to get a few more skins out there soon!
Uuugh, that kinda doesn't really work in that case in my hood opinion. Most recent Sentient drones don't possess reddish / orangeish tints in their accents (metallic parts), just take a closer look at Ropalolyst, Symbilysts, Brachiolysts, and Amalgamations. They look rather 'organic' than 'mechanic,' as in the case with their ancient fellas found around Lua. I'd suggest you checking these out with ColorPic or something of that sort. Also, there are Sentient-themed items in the game, such as Komorex, Cyanex, Phantasma, Tatsu, Battacor, Ocucor, and a number of attachments--they may give you a hint on what to do with the scheme.
These burning red metallics just don't really look consistent with the game's overall colour composition to me, I just wanted to point this out as an average Sentient wannabe who's been examining their colours for the past couple years.
Also, these energy patterns on his head look more like Orokin / Ostron writings rather than energy that is common among some of the Sentient drones or structures, I think this should be addressed, too. ._.
Overall that's a very nice skin, thank you for bringing it to us. We need more Sentient skins, but they should be more consistent with their original concept as their progenitor faction doesn't really have much diversity (with obvious reasoning of course, they're a flippin' machine hivemind!).
Hmmm I agree the red is too bright and I will most like make it a deeper red in the next iteration. I also think I need to add some more textures to the metal in order to make it appear more worn.
I would like to keep elements of both types of Sentients in the skin.
As for the energy, I'll look into making it fit the style better.
Thank you for your suggestions!
