The issue is with your environment.
First things first. Backup your server. Always but especially when playing around with it.
Also, unsubbing/resubbing to a mod often does nothing but move files around locally on the PC. That's practically pissing into the wind if its a problem with your cached copy.
You need to make sure that you delete the cached copy in the workshop folder as well as the copy in ark itself.
Is this affecting all users on your server? If yes, can those users launch a SP game with SS successfully? Right then your issue is server side.
If no, and its only affecting a subset of your users, then it is client side.
If you self host your own server you have access to the mod cache, or in ASM to force downloading from steam. If you're using a paid host you do not have access to the mod cache that the host uses. In that case you need to FTP in and manually transfer in a known working copy of the mod that you've copied from a working client.
Worst comes to worst. Launch a new instance of the server and restore from backup.
But just to be clear... Your problem is not with the SS mod. It is with how Steam and Ark handle the downloading, installation and launching of mods. So there's nothing that Legend can do to stop/prevent/fix this for you.
Thank you for your answer @Zerassar :) I know that it is not the SS mod that is at fault and that the problem is more a "communication error between various parties" indeed. So, I am on the same page there.
Sometimes one can overlook certain steps, and I am going to bring your reply to our teck guru of our group, he can varify if he has done those steps you describe there. (I myself am a noob when it comes to such things, so i best not touch any of it... ;) )
He will understand all you wrote and perhaps something is in there he has not yet thought of, which can happen, after all he is just human, like all of us.
It is affecting some users (the majority) but it seems that some of us (just three persons so far) where still able to get on at least one map sofar. Strange thing since we all are using the same game with same mods. (Did I mention I am a noob at this?)
Anyway... thank you very very very much for the time and effort to help out. I am going to copy this to our Tech guru and... I just hope it may help.
And well I am not having a problem with anyone, not the creator of the SS mod (cause lets be honest... I would not even be able to do it so who am I to nag, right?) or with Wildcard. The above is all desperation of some one that was... well... feeling sick and just hoped to have some slight feeling better moments playing ARK and... yeah... so... that. ;)
Thanks ;) I really appreaciate your time and words :)
Re some maps working some not... Dont confuse the issue here. Each map is normally a completely separate server. Even if they share some files, they are their own server.
So if some maps are working thats great. Lets focus on the servers that are not working, and whether those faulty servers are problematic for everyone or not.
That is just the weird part of it all...
For some people... they see one server... and others get no servers at all... and then.. there is one that showed he was having no issues what so ever. (That told me there is more going on).
And sure, would love to have out Tech guru to pop in and see if there is any solution to the problem, however, unlike me... he has a life in progress next to all this... I don't... I am just an senior gamer with health bugs trying to get some fun time in. And I am trying to help... Even if it is in this... noobish way.
So... the situation is as follows...
We are a group of... at least 10 people. We rent a server that is managed by our Tech guru (he basically lives in a computer, really!) and he is the one keeping all running smoothly.
Since the update of last week (the one of 31.9 GB) we hear various problems comming up.
The majority of us... do not see any map on the list. They get just the "no server found" message. If they unsubscribe from mods... they can see the servers... But since mods are in the system (as in hooked up to our gamefiles) we can not log in cause the moment we do that... we get the Modmissmatch. On the quest which of the mods it was, by activating them one by one... Turned out the Super Structure mod is the one giving the problem in so far, that the moment we activate that one, the list goes missing.
However... Two days back... I got send two small files that I was told to put in the mods file of ARK. Did that... and... I got in. For one day. Cause at the end of the day we got another update from ARK and now that one option is no longer functioning either.
Commonly, when these problems arise... we are told "Have you done the vaildating files?" "have you unsubscribed and resubsribed the mods?" and so on... So like a good little gamer of the game I am, I thought I mention that we had. I know it does not really do much then perhaps pick up a small missing piece and all is fine. (It does actually work sometimes indeed... so.. there is that).
However... I know... It is not the creator of the mod to blame nor is Studio Wildcard. As said, I am just trying, in my desperation, to get a fix for a game I really love but have not been able to play now just in a period where I really could use the good fibe I get from it. You know.
It is a weird situation... since... it seems only a portion of our group seems to get NO server listings, only when the mod is active... and then after some... they get only 1 server showing... could not enter still though... and then there were just a couple of us... that even managed to get in that one server...
See I am not a tech person, specially even when it comes to having to explain all in English. I am just describing the situation to the best of my knowledge... and trust me, in the 4 years I have played ARK now... this situation is a first... normally we just had all gone for all the players... no exceptions or anything.
Sorry if I am typing replies that are too long. I am just trying to give a full report of what is going on in the small hope some one can point out "Hey... have you tried....?" you know.
If your mod version is the only problem, you will be able to see the server but upon trying to connect you get the mod mismatch error.
So that you're saying servers are missing from the list suggests to me this is not solely mod related.
If only a subset of your users are having issues this tells me that the server is working fine.
Affected users should restart their PC's and when unsubbing, clean out the workshop cache as i mentioned earlier. Following which they can resub, make sure the mod downloads, launch the game, wait at the main menu for the mod to finish installing, then try to connect to the server.
That is exactly what we did... except... for the clearing of the workshop cache. That might be just... Going to see if it helps. ;)
Thanks for your patience and time :) Really appreaciate it!
-When I subscribe to the mod, enter the game and let install, my server doesn't show up.
-When I remove all of the files, restart my pc, start the game, my server is there, and it goes through to install the mod before it times out and says that the versions are mismatched.
-If the mod is installed on my system and not the server, the server still shows up and works as intended.
-Single player does not load the mod at all
Going to try removing the mod again from the pc side, restart the pc, verify game files, then resubscribe to the mod again and see if that helps.
Are there any other suggestions to make this work, bc I would rather not remove it from my server since people enjoy it.
So, fingers crossed that it works this time.
(Though, I'm probably going to wait until Steam finishes with whatever issues it is having at the moment.)
"put the mod back in the server," - How do you do this?
All paid server hosts use a mod cache that you do not have access to.
If you're self hosting with ASM, it also uses a cache but includes settings to force downloads from steam rather than using said cache.
and yes, I delete the mod files from the cache side.
Same with on my pc. My roommate, the server wills how up fine with the same mod, and same with another friend of ours that plays on our server. But, I cannot get it to work for the life of me. I'm going to try relaunching it now that steam is working again and see if that has fixed anything on my end.
Are you self hosting with something like ASM?
Or using a paid server host? If its a paid host you do not have access to the mod cache. And so as I suggested earlier in this thread, you'd need to use FTP to drop in a known working copy of the mod.
