If you had saved in the middle of a performance before updating, that quest may have cleared and all objectives completed in order to clean things up with the upgrade. It depends on wgich version you are upgrading from. The performance quests are spawned by the Story Manager (location change event) when you enter a tavern or jarl's house. That's why you can't restart them via console. Just exit the building and re-enter to respawn the updated quest. If you had a spy quest from Viarmo, just go back to him and get another. The reset of the quests was necessary due to changes with one of the upgrades.
Unfortunately, I can't get new performances quests or the ones from Viarmo, and that's what I'm not sure of the reason for. I can go to the innkeeper and say 'I'd like to perform here,' and the innkeeper says 'of course' but then literally nothing happens. I can play, but there's no quest to complete and get paid, and then if I go up to him again the 'I'd like to perform here' option is there again instead of 'I'm done for now.'
The spy quest from Viarmo was one I couldn't complete (possibly you can't do it with jarls who are put in by the civil war storyline?)--I went to Dawnstar to talk to Brina but there was no 'I'd like to play for you' option. That was ages ago, so I don't think it's related; I've done a lot of tavern quests since. Anyway I went to Viarmo to tell him I'd changed my mind about it and get another one, and again, nothing happens. The dialogue option is there, and I can click on it, but it doesn't actually do anything.
All this remains the case even if I leave the cell and come back.
Going to have a go later today at trying more stuff, but again, grateful for any suggestions from people who know more about modding than me. Which is basically everybody, honestly, I mostly just play. ;)
Also, which version are you upgrading from? Is it a version from before it was on the workshop? Thanks.
I'm upgrading from whichever the last one here on the workshop was; I've only ever been subscribed to it here (except very briefly the other day when I tried a manual install in case it was the workshop that wasn't working). This all only started the first time I loaded up with the latest update.
Thanks for keeping trying to help. :)
I'm working on 5.0, so if all else fails, you and cathleg should try that version. Each new update includes an update routine that runs to clean out some things in the background, including refreshing the MCM menu.
eta: And I see 5.0 is there--been away from Skyrim for a few days. Fingers crossed! :)
