I am having the same issue, I can't settle colonies or change traits.

I'm thinking that the latest update caused it and we're just waiting on the mod to be updated too...
I've done a little testing... It seems like it breaks down after your first year in your save. Everything works fine and as intended if you spawn a bunch of silver in and settle a colony at the start, but some people don't want to do that.

Shame, it seems even now the negative timers still persist

Having the same problem, and I was past the 1 year mark when I tried to Empire. I will say I am using Faction Discovery and Save Our Ship 2, which the description says is incompatible, so don't know if that might be contributing.

Neither have this effect. Save Our Ship 2 doesn't work when you move to other planets, but otherwise it works. Faction Discovery spawns bases of your Empire, which it really shouldn't do and that breaks the mod. Neither affect the event system.

Is there still no fix for this? It's happened to me on 3/3 saves about 1 year after making the initial settlement.
Here is the error logged:

should be easy to save your faction files when SoS2 leaves the planet and start a new one.
