I usually get all the perks that give me cheaper settlement cost and wait until I have around 4000 silver and the "people want to have more settlements NOW!!" event and build 3 - 4 settlements, in 1 i build everything that upgrades military and the others are usually miners (it's which gives the most money IMO), that way if a settlement needs help 1 has military and I just keep going like that until they are all lvl5, and then build 2 more settlements, once those 2 get lvl 5, 2 more settlements and I go on like that until I have -35 FPS and create a new world.
Also, in empire, you can modify how much money you make and lose in options, so just tweak that to your liking.
Quick edit: I like the idea and the fact you have to defend settlements, adds some risk and reward. However as it is now is a bit ridiculous.
I think I understand why people are having issues. I have only had a few attacks of higher level than my settlements, and I was able to fend them off.
I am not 100% certain on this, but I think if you deploy an army from one settlement to defend another, I think maybe both the army being deployed and the army already there defend together? I am not totally sure, but I have had overwhelming victories against equally sized raids doing this. I had a settlement with army size 4 being attacked by army size 6, so I deployed an army from another settlement that was also size 6 hoping that would be enough and I got an overwhelming victory, which is odd considering the armies were of equal size. If the size 4 and size 6 were working together, that would explain why that happened. I have been able to reproduce these results, but only a couple times so idk if it's just coincidence or something.
I certainly agree though that you should not be facing invasion sizes that are vastly greater than you have the capacity to defend. If deploying an army does actually combine the settlement's original defending army and the deployed army, then perhaps it would make sense for you to get level 5 armies attacking military level 3 settlements (though it would be nice if that was stated in the tutorial or something). If that's not actually how it works, then yeah this is broken and needs to be adjusted.
Edit: forgot to mention that I have to agree with you about the lack of tutorial.
Im having a bit different issue with deffending a settlement. It's like im deploying a squad, killing most of attackers so th rest of them is running away, and when they leave map im getting kicked to world map and "Deffence failed" message appers. It's the same when i just send some pawns manually from another colony. What im doing wrong ?
Edit: Killing attackers with dev mode results the same way :/
Edit: ok, it seems to work now, when attack message appeared i didn't do anything and my squad automatically deffended the settlement :)
