is this a viable performance test?
i really want to check out some enviroments of HL:A before playing it and getting a vibe of how i should adjust the graphics settings

Well they say it's not the same rendering so I would not. The only thing this will tell you is if your PC can't run this there's no way it'll run HLA. I hope the assets shown here are low fidelity from the game cause if so that's hopeful for how demanding the game will be.

No, it's not. Very likely, the game will be optimised to support most computers that achieve a good score in the SteamVR Performance Test, found here:
