RECRUITMENT

You can abuse the ability to talk to anyone to recruit people you should not be able to. Please use this ability responsibly. It is possible that I might patch this at some time.

MODLIST ORDER ERRORS IN THE LAUNCHER

The modpack throws up a few errors in the launcher. THIS IS NORMAL. A few animations patches and stuff call on dependencies that are not present.

You should have only two mods in conflict. These are:

-NCE Patch Pack 2.
-GenMod_CCO_all_anims_comp

Neither of these two errors will affect your game in any way.

NAVMESH ISSUES

These are in no way unique to my modpack but they happen frequently enough. Navmesh issues are issues with being unable to walk in places you should be able to. The most common example might be being unable to pass through the doorway of a building.

This is the procedure I use. It works 100% of the time for me.

1. Save your game.
2. Push Shift+F12 to open in-game editor (IGE).
3. Click the 'Fix Stuff' button. You should receive a popup. Click ok.
4. Click 'Navmesh Tools and then select 'Regenerate Sector'.
5. Click Roads tab and then click 'Render All'. This will lock Kenshi up for potentially a few minutes. Do not panic, and do not do anything. Just wait. While it is rendering, the button you clicked will be greyed out.
6. After some time, the Render All button will regain its color. This means the procedure is finished. Save your game at this point.
7. Check to see if the navmesh issues are resolved. If they persist, load your game.
8. They are now resolved. Promise.

IMPORTANT!

Sometimes the game crashes when you try to render all roads. If this happens, just load and try again. If the game repeatedly crashes when you try to render all roads, verify your game files. Doing so can cause you to lose the modlist order, but this can be quickly restored by following the instructions listed at the bottom of the modpack description.

Even more rarely, your saves can become corrupted (over time, not by this procedure!) and you will not be able to complete this procedure. It is important to maintain a backup save or two when playing Kenshi, especially with so many mods.

RESOURCE ODDITIES:

Because of the way I set the custom resources in GenMod, they will show strange things when you click on them. For instance, coal mines show "water availability" and tin mines show "iron quality". These ratings are a rating of the resource availability that the mine produces.

There is nothing I can do to change the label. The FCS does not allow me to create new resource categories, so I had to adapt existing ones for these resources.

These oddities will not prevent them from functioning normally.

LOSS OF PERFORMANCE OVER TIME

This is something I noticed during mod development. It may be specifically related to mod development, or something that happens with Kenshi. I'm not sure.

Generally, verifying game files has had surprisingly effects on making Kenshi run like it was brand-new again. I discovered this quite by accident when I learned that verifying game files also resolved an issue I had that was preventing me from using my navmesh procedure to resolve navmesh issues.

This can result in the loss of the modlist order, but there is a quick way to restore it. Instructions are on the installation page.

BAD PERFORMANCE

If better performance in general is more what you are looking for, there are a couple of options. First, I advise you to follow general performance enhancing guidelines for any game. Other folks have written plenty of guides on this. I hear reducing shadows is particularly effective in this game.

If you've done that, and you still need better performance, I suggest replacing Reduced Particle FX with Particles and foliage fix (performance and FPS boost). Apparently this mod sometimes causes foliage issues, with trees spawning in places that block access to shops. Instructions for that problem are listed below.

If you need yet further performance (specifically if you have a weak graphics card), you can remove the higher resolution texture mods from this modpack. You will want to keep the compressed textures, though. At this time, I am not providing instructions on how to do this. I may get around to writing it soon.

IF TREES ARE BLOCKING ACCESS TO SHOPS:

(This is for 'Particles and foliage fix' Users, but useful info if you just want to remove trees)
If you encounter this problem, press SHIFT+F12. Click Navmesh Tools, then click the Roads Tab. Select the 'Foliage Removal' tool.

You can now draw purple circles on the ground and increase or decrease their diameter. Simply draw such a circle over the offending tree. Make sure it completely envelopes the area that needs foliage removal.

Now save your game and load that save file. MAKE SURE NOT TO EVER TOUCH THE BUTTON THAT SAYS 'SAVE MOD!' Should you accidentally press it, there will be a warning message, so don't worry! Anyhow, on loading your save file, the tree should be removed!

DIFFICULTY SCALING

Because of the limitations of the Kenshi engine, it is up to us as players to sort of self impose a difficulty on ourselves. In particular, I recommend scaling the squad size multiplier in some way to your own faction size. Adjusting 'Town Raid Events: size' can additionally be seen as a difficulty slider for defending one's base against other factions.

These are the settings I use:

GAMEPLAY SETTINGS:

These are adjustable at any time in the menu:

Squad size multiplier: 2.25
Global Population multiplier: 1.25

Town Raid events: size: 3.25
Frequency: 1

Town attacks frequency: High
Dismemberment: Frequent

ADVANCED SETTINGS:

These are only adjustable when starting a new game, or when importing:

Hunger Time: Slightly reduced (to the left)
Chance of Death: Slightly increased (to the right)
Global Damage Multiplier: Slightly increased, same as chance of death
Production Speed: Unchanged
Research Speed: Unchanged
Building Speed: Unchanged
Number of Nests Multiplier: Slightly increased, same as chance of death

Bandits Loot the Player: True
Easy Prospecting: False

SOME ITEMS HAVE CUT EFFICIENCY

I don't feel like making a NCE patch for these items, and they are mostly the dyed versions of clothes that do not affect armor ratings significantly. I would be appreciative if someone released such a mod.

STEALTH IS OP

It is well known that stealth is overpowered in this game. Unfortunately, there are no tools given to modders to fix this. The decision is yours, but I chose not to use stealth
