Mod Suggestions for ZoFE
Alright, so first off, I have a hard time playing without this mod (since 3.4 makes this mod unworkable as of this post), because it's pretty awesome. HOWEVER, I'd like to make some hefty suggestions to make it better in some ways. I have a certain play-style that the mod doesn't specifically address, which I go to lengths to address on my own. This makes it a pain in the ass for multiplayer though, because it obviously turns it into a unique version locally. I'm hoping that my suggestions can by considered (or even just acknowledged) for the next update.

Kolyn, you might be able to infer that I really like my democratic style of government, done in specific ways. If I try doing what I do, I end up being depicted as a "Despicable Neutral", which is inappropriate. I cite this as one example of things I address with this mod. This part of the changes I've made is the one I hope for the most.

The other thing I have grievances about is how the A.I. ascends. I understand if you don't want to take this into consideration, but the A.I. ascending in the way that you've outlined just isn't fun to play with, in my opinion. Ascending should be as difficult for them as it is for the player. Every single A.I. being uncooperative (read: arrogant snobs) after ascending just breaks the immersion for me, especially when they all ascend. This can surely be tweaked. I'd like to see a play-through where being an ascended empire doesn't necessarily mean that you have to be a domineering, conquering power as well. I want to be the galactic power broker of peace (counter-intuitive to some, I know....)

There's localisation that I've added to as well, to make better distinguishable information about things like civics.

I'll outline everything that I can in the next posts.

Thank you for the suggestions. You're actually free to make your own local versions to tweak this mod however you want. I don't mind.

There are two other issues I want to address. The first one is that I don't think it's any 'easier' for AI to ascend. The requirements are the same as the player's. The only difference is that 99% of AI will consume all their 8 AP slots before meeting the requirements to ascend, which means that should taking the perk be the only option, they are very likely never to ascend. While some people do like the fact that no AI can ascend, it is not the design decision here. This event helps to alleviate cases where they consumed all ascension perk slots, but meet all requirements to ascend otherwise.

The other about AI being domineering/arrogant snobs is actually because they use awakened fallen empire AI, and their attitudes are rather limited. I suppose one can sort of argue whether it is a good thing for AI ascended empires to use awakened fallen empire AI. But this is something that needs to be tested, whether Ascended Empires without awakened empire AI will function as they are supposed to.

Thanks for the reply. I have been using a local version that I've changed. I haven't uploaded and published anything though, and I don't intend to.

I figured this was the case with the A.I., but my experience with it hasn't been that great as it is. They leave federations, don't cooperate nearly as much, like to declare war a lot, etc. I suppose it's a matter of players' preference? I do understand that it would be a lot of work to create a whole new set of A.I. behaviours. It is of course to your discretion in the end.

It's actually that the AI is pretty hard coded. You have two existing packages, either they behave just like a default empire, or they behave just like an awakened fallen empire, with almost zero way to customise how each of them behaves.

Could starbases when they change, simply be made to be empty instead? In the end you're forced to click through all of them, but I feel it'd be made a lot faster than having to go 1 by 1 clicking for each individual building to convert them all into anchorages again, rather than simply clicking on "build anchorage" a couple times on empty starbases.

That is the original design, until people complained that it absolutely destroyed theirs and AI's economy.
