Sadly I don't have any workaround, but I can confirm this happening to me as well. For me the game freezes for several minutes, then finally unfreezes with me being disconnected from the server, but the cutiemark is working next time I join the server.

I'm running Linux Mint 18 Sarah 64-bit

This worked for me. It took about 5 minutes. Then I could finally apply. Once I reconnected, it worked. Awesome!

create a folder ppm_custom and paste your image there. And make sure it has no background and has the size of 256c256 with 32bit color depth.

Same thing is happening to me but it just freezes up my entire computer so i have to restart it every, single, time. My guess is the creator isnt going to bother with fixing it for around 7 months then add something else, like add some new hairstyles, and creating a new problem without fixing the original problem. Or even worse that they are not going to fix this problem at all and just let this major problem get in the way of those who dont want to use the default ppm marks. Either way this problem has been going on for months on my end which is annoying the crap out of me, so if any one of the creators get to actually fixing this problem then Id be eternally greatful.

However, i know that they are probably making a new build at this very moment and are dealing with other issues beside this one, but this is just me being pesamistic and expecting the worst possible scenarios, and also being salty about this problem

It's been over a year and half since the last update for this addon, so even getting a fix after 7 months would be quite a nice surprise at this point. And I totally get you, I sometimes get salty about stuff like this too, but we should be grateful for Scentus being commited enough to take over the development (even if just for a while) after Terezi stopped supporting it. They do it for free after all, and I don't see many developers wanting to take over and continue working on it.

i'm running into the same issue. my entire computer freezes any time i try to select a custom mark.

one of the servers i go to has an older version of the editor, and it works fine, although it may be a little glitchy. at least the old version doesn't freeze the game
