"The Human's Fallen Empire"
I have way too much free time, so I decided to write a story about my current game with the "Calignosity" origin. this of course means spoilers for the event, so don't read if you do not want to know the story behind Calignosity. some of this is "non-canon" for Calignosity, Fallen Empires, and end-game crisises, but you might find it interesting

In the far future, a single, massive human empire has dominated for thousands of years. they have almost destroyed the last alien empire, known as the "Phythorian Star Empire", A once-massive nation set on destroying all other sentient life.

The humans won, forcing the Phythorians to flee to another galaxy, who destroyed all but a few other empires there. those not destroyed collapsed into fallen empires. after taking over, the Phythorians built massive amounts of robots, set on destroying all life, the "Contingency", as they called it, and set it apon their home galaxy. The Contingency overwhelmed the humans, who fled to the very same galaxy destroyed by the "Phythorian Scourge" long ago.

The journey was tough. Contingency forces destroyed most human transports before they even left the new galaxy. in the end, the humans reached a tiny, yet habitable world, naming it "Bastion", as it was meant to be the "bastion" of humanity, protecting themselves from the massive empires that would surely inhabit the galaxy.

The survivors were confused to find barely any empires at all. sensing something was wrong, they rebuilt their "Colossus", a massive ship that made it to the new system but disabled in the journey by damage suffered before the jump to the new galaxy.

meanwhile, the Phythorians began to recolonize their home galaxy, free from humans. however, they forgot to program a way for the Contingency to identify friendly life-forms from vermin that must be killed at all costs, and so were nearly wiped out before once again departing to another galaxy. the Contingency, meanwhile, sent forces out to hunt down the last humans...

The humans encountered their first fallen empire, and to their luck, it was fanatic xenophile. Suddenly, a "Ghost Signal" appeared. it was a "ghost signal" to all but the humans, who knew it as a signal relating to the Contingency. fearing their doom, they told all the empires they knew of the Contingency, and how the mere fact humans were here meant the Contingency was following. the other empires hated the group of humans, for possibly bringing about their doom.

however, the fallen empire managed to reactivate, its people startled out of dedacance by the threat; the Contingency almost destroyed them once, and unless they can pull the galaxy together it will destroy them entirely. The newly awakened empire accepted the humans and many others as "vassals", swearing loyalty in exchange for the peace the Awakened Empire desired.

This ended up paying off, the Contingency arrived, and has now almost been fought off entirely. however, the future is uncertain...

will the Contingency return with greater numbers? or the Phythorians themselves? or will something... more sinister... arrive, to destroy the galaxy?
