Options and thoughts
The difficulty I have with the options screen is there is no attachment to a unit in order to anchor any understanding of what the setting will truly mean:

1. Creation Threshold- default 120, but range of 50 to a 1000? That's kind of wide. A thousand whats? Accumulation of weight units over a cell?

2. Path degrades -default 10%- 10% of what? Of the weight accumulated, over what period of time? Confusion. Advice says higher degrades faster. OK, but slide to right LOWERS the number, so is that higher? Or is the higher percentage as I slide to the left higher? Confusion.

3. Slider for Path Spread Speed is locked. Ok... try various things to unlock. Fail. COnfusion.

4. Snow path clearing speed also locked.

5. How long does stone take to smooth? Higher it takes longer. Ok. But now my units are from 100 to 10,000 which is really wide, unless the derivatives of the curve that matter are actually what is in play here and it's not wide. But I don't know... because I don't know what the units are or how they are applied? Are they ticks of a square being occupied or accumulated weight units again?

So that's the confusion part.

In previous play (v1.2) I had three large pastures (areas of open space outside walls) about 900 tiles total area each. Let my 10 or so horses wander in those areas. Inevitably large sections of those pastures were trampled into uselessness. I could not figure out how to adjust settigns to make thi not happen or for the packed earth to reclaim to soil faster.

But I should have to IMO. There should just be a click setting that is on/off: domesticated animals create paths or not.

All the above, of course, imho.

Some good points there, and you're right, those options are pretty terrible. I'll see if I can make them a bit more usable!

I never really like giving too many customization options for turning things on or off, primarily because I do put quite a bit of effort into making things balanced, and I don't like it when mods (mine or anyone else's) make the game too easy, or just provide a single clearly better option. That said, I can see where turning paths for animals off completely might be a good option.

Oh for the record, I actually prefer just having these discussions in the main thread, I tend to lose track of these separate pages - I already have too many mod pages to keep track of as it is ;). I'll subscribe to this one though, let's keep it here.

Sounds great. And just as on opinion out there- less options beyond a few critical ones would be FINE with me- the basics I see are:

1. [option slider] How easy is it for a path to form?
2. [option slider] How quickly do paths disappear?
3. [yes/no checkbox] Should animals make paths?
Done.

I think paths should automatically spread the way you have them optionally do that- it looks very natural and is reasonable.

All the other options go away.

I *really* like this mod and would like to see it work out as a trail blazing idea.

See what I did there?

Thanks very much for listening and thinking about this.
