How do I change the size/texture?
Go to your tools -> construction -> Safe Space

Why does it go partially/fully black sometimes when I spawn it?
This is some sort of bug to do with mesh generation. Unfortunately I've not yet been able to find a fix for it. Keep respawning it until it works for now.

Is there any way to stop other people coming in?
This is planned[github.com] as one of the first features post-launch.

This addon applies no limits to how many you can spawn. An addon on your server or some setting is limiting it - not me.
