Mod synergy
I have over 550 mods installed in a massive overhaul and this mod was built to fill a gap that I felt was present. Adding these mobility and detection range bonuses to weapons is intended to make weapon choice more meaningful.

Recommended mods
So here is a list of mods that I think will work very well with this one.

1) [WOTC] Iridar's Weapon Skin Replacer
Completely overhaul weapon stats, give abilities to weapons, change aim curves, damage, etc. Great for balancing weapons, or creating new categories! Make the cosmetic TLE weapons their own category and increase the number of meaningful choices you can have.

2) [WOTC] Armor & Vest Config
Completely overhaul armour stats. This mod is why I didn't bother adding anything related to armour in this mod. That one already takes care of it and does it much better.

I highly recommend changing the Skirmisher, Reaper, and Templar armours to be heavy and light verions of standard kevlar. e.g.
  • Kevlar = 0 mobility (standard protection)
  • Skirmisher = -1 mobility (extra protection)
  • Reaper = +1 mobility (less protection)
  • Templar = +2 mobility (least protection)

That way they're not pathetically useless templates that exist for no good reason. And it gives you more meaningful choices to make when preparing your soldier loadouts.

3) [WOTC] Point-Based Not Created Equal
Create variation in your units' base mobility stat. A fundamental component in making this mod more useful.

4) [WOTC] Soldier Development
Units can gain mobility (among other stats) by more exposure to combat. Works great with the above in that low mobility soldiers can recover mobility.

Recommended changes
Finally, this last one isn't a mod that currently exists, as far as I know. This is instead a recommended ini change to your soldier classes.

The change is this: use 'hidden potential' to allow soldiers to lose mobility on level up. When coupled with the above suggestions and this mod, you will have all the reason to use a variety of different weapons throughout your campaign.

How can you do this?

Depending on what class mods (if any) you use, go to XComClassData.ini and go to the stat progression of each class. Then add or change the mobility stat progression to this for all ranks.

(StatType=eStat_Mobility, StatAmount=-1, RandStatAmount=3, CapStatAmount=15)

What does this do?

StatAmount = -1
  • Soldier guarantees a loss of mobility on level up.

RandStatAmount = 3
  • Solider can roll for any number in an array of length 3 starting at StatAmount. What that means is that on level up, your soldier will roll for either -1, 0, +1 to their mobility on level up.

CapStatAmount = 15
  • Ensures that your soldiers don't reach absurd levels of mobility which is possible.

The resulting effect is that each time you soldier levels up, they have a chance of losing mobility, gaining mobility, or staying the same. Think of this as your soldier's fitness changing throughout the campaign.

I also personally recommend doing a similar thing with the Will stat in order to simulate PTSD on the battlefield. The Soldier Development mod will keep you moving in the positive direction though. So no stat loss would be permanent.
