FPS Booster doesn't seem to do anything for me
Hi Krzychu1245,

Like I mentioned in my comment a couple of weeks back, I've subscribed to FPS Booster, but it doesn't seem to do anything for me -- I'm getting about the same framerates as before the mod, which is disappointing because others in the comments keep mentioning having significantly improved framerates. Below is a link to my logs and also my original comment for more context. Thanks!

I'm not sure whether it's my GPU that's bottlenecking or the combination of mods/graphic settings I'm using, but I'm not seeing anywhere near the FPS boost that others have been reporting here. I would say that the game does feel a little smoother when watching the animations in areas of my city that have a lot of vehicles and cims on-screen, but in terms of actual frames I'm getting maybe 2-3 fps more compared to before. My average in areas with a lot of buildings/vehicles would normally be 17-20 fps, and now it's around maybe 18-21 fps. Even when I view parts of my city that have nothing but landscape (no buildings, no vehicles, etc.), the game can't seem to go above 27 fps. So I'm surprised to read that some people are able to get 45+ or even 100+ fps.
Specs: Ryzen 3900X, 32GB Ram, GTX 1070.

Have about the same specs as you and i also do not see any improvement at all. Very dissapointing mod.

Yeah I'm really perplexed by it... I see other people post here and on Reddit that they get FPS numbers like 40+, 60+, even 100+ with this mod... even with older or lower spec hardware than me (5+ year old CPUs, laptop CPUs, etc), yet I can't even break 30 fps... I'm not really sure what the cause could be. Maybe other mods or assets that I'm subscribed to?

I was reading through some of the older discussion threads here from people who reported little improvement with this mod, and it seems like in some cases mods or missing assets could be the culprit, but I'm not sure how to identify whether that's the same cause for me.

Otherwise I'm not sure why I can't go above like 28 fps (with or without the mod). I just unsubscribed from FPS Booster and the Patch Loader mods and I'm basically getting the same FPS numbers, so the mod seems to basically do nothing for me.

Ok, so I think I finally got this mod to work. I had to do the following:

  • Disabled/unsubscribed from both FPS Booster and Patch Loader mods
  • Resubscribed to both Patch Loader and FPS Booster mods.
  • Restarted game, and enabled Patch Loader mod. Then exited game.
  • Restarted game, and enabled FPS Booster mod. Then exited game.
  • Restarted game, confirmed that both mods were enabled, then loaded up one of my cities.

After doing the above, I still wasn't seeing FPS numbers above 30 fps, but then it dawned on me that perhaps my Dynamic Resolutions mod settings were also reducing my performance.

Up until now, I've been playing at a resolution of 2560x1440, with Dynamic Resolution Mod set to 200%. This meant that effectively I was playing with a resolution above 4K. So I tried resetting Dynamic Resolution to the default 100% setting.... and boom! that did the trick. I was finally seeing FPS numbers above 30. In areas of the city that don't have any buildings (so just blank landscape) or being zoomed in on areas that didn't have a lot of visual complexity (like being zoomed in on an intersection), I was seeing FPS numbers in the 80's. More complex scenes like my city's downtown with a lot of highrises I was seeing fps in the 40's.

BUT... at default settings for Dynamic Resolution mod, the aliasing in the game is pretty bad. So I increased the setting to 150%, which means I'm essentially rendering at 4k resolution. This improves the anti-aliasing a lot -- albeit perhaps not as good as 200% -- but still good enough where I'm relatively pleased with the visuals. In turn, I'm able to achieve 40+ fps in areas of the city that don't have a lot of buildings, 30+ in moderately complex areas, and ~25 fps in the most complex areas. The results aren't quite as good as I had hoped with this mod, but it's still an improvement compared to before.

In the end, I think that even with my Ryzen 3900X, my CPU is still bottlenecking my GTX 1070. In areas of my city that I can get 40+ fps, I can see that my GPU utilization is at 100% -- but in areas that I can only get 30-40 fps, I'm only seeing ~70-85% GPU utilization, and in areas where I'm getting only getting 20-30 fps, I'm seeing only about 50-60% GPU utilization... suggesting to me that my CPU isn't able to keep up enough to keep my GPU at 100% utilization.

That last part is a bit disappointing considering I bought the 3900X for it's performance, but I still appreciate the little boost in FPS that FPS Booster is able to provide otherwise.
