Load Order
UBE should always go last in the list unless a mod specifically states that it should come after UBE (overwrite UBE)
Example Mod list (as shown in the Launcher)

  • Expanded Emblems (a mod which can and should overwrite UBE data)

map turns red/orange when approaching a ship

You're missing required dependency mods, specifically the the community fixes patch 2022.1

Stutter in Game at steady interval
This is a limitation of the game garbage cleanup process - while it currently cant be fixed by a mod, it can be configured to be less frequent - see the UBE GC Patch on the workshop

I am having poor performance
This mod greatly increases the number of patrols and vessels, you may experience decreased game performance! However, if you believe that a specific modded convoy or vessel group from this mod is responsible for this, Please report it here or Uboat Expanded Bug Reporting Form (Google Forms) [forms.gle]

Port has enemy vessels present when occupied by German/Axis

These issues are hard to trace down but it often is a bug with a completely different port or a task that occurred years prior. The game provides little insight into these bugs. Report the port & campaign & date into the bug forum.

Food quickly runs out

UBE makes units of food near 1 unit = approx 1kg of the food item (this varies based of type) 400 units of food (default) is no longer enough to supply the uboat.

UBE also increases consumption of food to approx. 100-130kg per day (historically accurate) it also assumes some of the food weight is used for cooking (butter, salt, etc.)

for 30 days you will need approximately 3,000 -4,000 kg of food

you can also reduce consumption by limiting varied dishes in the kitchen.

Research is empty or unavailable

All research is blocked until specific dates

Usually research on an item can start 6-12 Months prior to the normal Research Date
The same research will eventually become auto unlocked approx. 6 - 12 months after the initial research date.

Some campaigns already have research completed depending on what date you start
much of 1939 & 1940 does not have a significant amount of research

the bulk of research unlocks begin in 1941 & 1942 & onward.

I cant start the game with UBE, or the game hangs on start?

This is usually due to after installing UBE, Uboat must compile all of the data from the mod. This can take up to 5 minutes during the first start of the game, once this process is complete loading is much faster on subsequent loading / starting.

Constantly prompted to skip time in port (Skip time stops early)

This is caused by a near by group of ships being stuck in land or failing to spawn. It breaks time compression after every attempt by the game.

I don't see the new features XYZ mentioned for UBE, or the version shown in loading isn't the same as on the workshop

This is usually due to players being required to start a new game with the updated data.
Saves retain a snapshot of the mod data from when that campaign was initially started. Updates to UBE wont be seen in previous saves.

I cant assign sailors to officers

This is an intended feature of UBE to require officer skills which enable more sailor followers and is intended to add additional progression to crew. see change notes for 0.7.3+

I cant assign officer to deck gun

Again this is an intended feature. All Leaders have the ability to use the deck gun by default. other officer types must acquire skills to use the 88mm.

If this feature is not working you either:
A. Forgot a UBE dependency
B. Have another mod installed which changes / modifies/ re-implements vanilla skills for officers

Convoy XYZ seems small / too big / too many escorts / too few escorts

Please feel free to look up some of the convoy data at ConvoyWeb [www.convoyweb.org.uk] This is one of the primary sources for UBE.

The Identification book never ends / images are missing / incorrect

We are currently developing a custom Target Identification book to better serve UBE. Until then rely on the vanilla Identification pages (the first 20 or so pages) for target identification


I cant get UBE to be enabled / issues with Linux

@hockenberry Problem solved: I asked the question in the linux thread and somebody answered this: "It happens due to the lengthy description field in the manifest file. Maybe something to do with the tags as well. Editing the description in the manifest has fixed the issue for me."

I changed the description in thE manifest to "UBE" and the mod installed without issue. Thanks to @DECAFBAD!

Making Incompatible Version Compatible again

Issue: Following an update, previous saves are stated as incompatible

Reason: usually a typo fix or a version name change gets embedded in the save file an no longer matches UBE Changelog list

1) Find the Name of the UBE Version the Save file asks for (example 'Uboat Expanded 0.8.3a Hoftix' ) Note: this example the mod version has a typo which likely got removed/fixed from the change log, we need to re-add it.
2) Open up the .../steamapps/workshop/content/494840\2114304535/Datasheets/General.xlsx : Changelog
3) Add a Record for the missing Mod Version, ensure that the Saves Compatibility value is set to true.

I found a bug in UBE what should I do?

Get a copy of your output log (location:<>)
Take a screenshot
Submit a UBE bug report on Google Forms <url> or Submit to Uboat Discord (#ube-general-chat)

This doesn't work for me, since it keeps saying "weapon specialist required".
I was trying with my captain, who of course is a leader. Sorry, I didn't try with other leaders yet. And due to loading time of 7 minutes I will not fire up the game just for that now, since I'm setting sails for bed now... ^^

If Viewing the skills of the officer, does weapons specialist even appear?
If not this means that UBE was not properly loaded either due to load order or a mod conflict

I indeed had only the vanilla skill tree.
It seems I somehow messed up the mods. As far as I remember I got some messages about dependencies from other mods, which I all installed and had in my mod list.
Now I unsubscribed from all mods via the workshop and re-subscribed only to UBE, which is now the only mod in the list.
After starting a fresh game, I see the modded skill tree.

you have to share the file via a site like onedrive or google drive.

I may try to tinker with the Datasheet/Mod Manifest to trick the game into allowing the save again ( no promises on this working)

The only way I can think of getting this to work is by modifying the UBE general.xlsx/change notes and manifest to match your save file. But you would have to know which version of UBE your save file was created in
