How do I start my own faction?
Normally you would either join an existing faction and rebel when the ruler doesn't give you a fief you want, or conquer a fief as an independent character. Here, it seems that only the latter option works, and rulers don't hand out fiefs outside of villages. How do I make my own faction, then, without becoming an indie warlord?

I believe only the latter option woks. I have never been able to make one by rebelling. If you want to be a faction leader, you have to go indie.

You are correct, you cannot siege a town unless you are authorized by a faction military, or if you ARE your faction military and for some reason theres no way to defect and keep a town. Sadly you have to do it the old warband way and just siege a town by yourself, which is hard in this game with party limits. Best to start as a faction leader if thats how you want to play imo.

But what about things like elections? Can anything be done with those?

I wanna be able to roleplay as some rebels, seems like that won't be possible.
