Origin
Once upon a time, a pharmaceutical company named Secronom existed in some far away world. This company lead breakthroughs in modern medicine. Cancers were cured, paralysis and other disabilities such as lost limbs became a thing of the past. The typical person's life expectancy significantly increased as this company continued to pioneer new ways of making these miracle cures cheaper for the common folk.

Secronom announced a new product named Nerotonin-3, which unleashed an outbreak that lead to a global pandemic and worldwide lockdowns enforced by marshal law. A world government protocol earlier initiated in prediction of this, assembled some of the world's top minds in order to prevent what seemed like an inevitable calamity. The world's best doctors, scientists, high ranking military officers and tacticians were called upon to begin a project that would be classified as top secret.

Unfortunately, this outbreak was severely underestimated, the protocol has failed and incompetence from world leaders and their underlings ran more rampart than the infected who now began to rise from their graves.

One individual, a physician who foresaw much of this was Dr. Simon P. Fleming. Much of his attempts failed to shut down Secronom's project. His campaign came to an end and to much great cost after his wife, Dr. Elizabeth Fleming and his daughter perished after his home town was overrun by the now cannibalistic, flesh eating infected.

World governments were toppled either by rebellious militant groups or the great hordes of infected. Religious groups called this the judgement day, the non-religious called it the brink of extinction. Surviving citizens armed themselves alongside military forces and began creating outposts across cities in an attempt to continue living. The government protocol that was supposed to prevent all of this fizzled. A splinter group from the top secret project, took advantage of the chaos and used their powers to manipulate the market and to salvage leftover research from Secronom. This group would later publicly call themselves "V.O.I.D.".

Through several years of fighting, Dr. Fleming was reduced to something similar to a rat scavenging for resources, overburdened by those who are in need of his help. Fleming found himself invited into V.O.I.D. after making a name for himself from local communities, and he would later make great contributions in the redevelopment of Nerotonin. They were perceived by survivors as a group of like-minded megalomaniacs obsessing over the "cure for death." An originally neutral group that made several promises of building a utopia, a world where such things around them would never happen again turned against the very people they swore to help.

Unfortunately for those around them, their desires came at a greater cost, something the short lived Secronom corporation learned the hard way.

Some pirates achieved immortality by great deeds of cruelty. Some achieved immortality by amassing great wealth. But the void had long ago decided that they would prefer to achieve immortality by not dying, for they can only love what death cannot touch.
