If you compare the Advanced Large Thruster (1x3x1) vs the Large Jet Thruster (3x7x3). For the same amount of CPU you can afford 6 L2 vs 1 LJT.
You get less than a 5% loss in overall thrust, and gain the ability to boost (185% thrust up to 160m/s). You consume 30% less energy than the equivalent amount of L2 thrusters, weigh 30% less mass and gain over 250% block hp increase.
The single an ONLY downside is that the thruster takes up a lot more room.
Note: CPU is what's relevant here, not block size. Nothing in this game has ever scaled by size, so don't even consider measuring something's effectiveness by it's size.
No actually its 40% roughly, you need consistency as well too , i mean they do take a flak ton of building space to place them like you said after all. Especially when your trying to keep the ship small for hiding behind terrain for base bashing or your drilling holes to get to ore, your not using boost, so trying to compare with boost only in mind is flawed.
As for energy who gives a two cent, the galaxy is loaded with promethium, if you have energy issues thats causing generator damage, simple fix add another generator XD - unless your running out of CPU (and if thats the case then you got a ♥♥♥♥ build to begin with)
As for the mass the L2 Thrusters easily make up for it, i mean on my newest build alone using the same example comparing 2x LJT vs 2x 3x3 L2's you get over 2.8Mn thrust difference, EDIT: You say dont measure something by its size vs effectiveness? then what would you call it? if something takes up a certain amount of space but is outperformed by something of smaller size but utilizing same space especially when you start also taking into account its length as well it would be insanely outperformed, not comparing is absurd.
I mean if you compare on a per thruster basis which is stupid btw since they dont occupy the same space then yea bigger is better, but if you use the smaller one to occupy the same space as the bigger and the bigger is out performed, why use it? i mean thats the point of the bigger.. they are more advanced and produce MORE, they have the capacity to provide larger more powerful thrust consistently than something thats smaller and simpler (EDIT: also as you mentioned yes as they should, take less cpu as well cuz well theres less to control, so that is something i agree with for sure, as for power well that would depend on a lot of factors but for game sake id say yea they should take more.. but yea you can use 18 L2 for a single LJT and you got aux cores .. cpu / power goes out the window.. heck i took off all the extenders and put on 5 aux and was in the negative on cpu .. so the cpu and power impact is minimal at best, mass again they easily make up for it)
Anyhow its your mod do what you want, ill make changes to it to make it more logical sense that I FEEL it should be, lots of people love your mod it seems (as do I, other than a few pet peaves but thats more personal i guess apparently) so apparently your doing something right, eh? haha (this was meant to be a little humorous just so you know)
""Quote: Note: CPU is what's relevant here, not block size. Nothing in this game has ever scaled by size, so don't even consider measuring something's effectiveness by it's size.""
This is another example i mentioned. Also your cpu system is way more limiting than Elleons (with using extenders only aspect, Not including the CPU Auxiliary) , BUT i do totally agree with you on how you have approaching this (though i feel it needs work, just dont ask me how or what, because that early game cpu is a killer, but as you mentioned in mod description, mods intention is to basically add more meaningful progression which so far of playing it, it's doing very well at it),
So far I enjoy it way more than vanilla, no really so far my time of playing vanilla for past few years (with lots of rage quitting here and there over elleon's BS, pardon my cookies) and then finally saying flak it and tried Project Eden/Reforged galaxy, its a lot more of the approach that elleon should have done. Albeit though there are some things i don't agree with (example Light drones should be easily killable with hand weapons where as heavy drones should be stupidly hard basically making it impossible (this includes rocket launchers)) but that's a list in and of itself and personal opinion, I'm here was just curious about the thrusters
Also sorry bout the first msg, was tired and in a hurry so wasnt putting much thought into it like i should have. EDIT: Please don't think I am trying to bash on your mod, I am not , honestly i absolutely love the way your mod and Eden have changed the game dramatically, The time and effort you two have put into both of these mod is amazing and deserve a lot of praise and i thank you for this, im just in major disagreement with the thrusters is all .. i feel they are unbalanced and have no purpose/reason to upgrade to the larger ones (like you can stick 18 L2's to occupy the same space as a LJT and get well over 4 Mn performance more than the LJT, EDIT: i also tested this out and apparently can boost with it like that too? LUL? so apparently dont need the LJT for boost either)
Other than that, absolutly Great mod man i love it
Either way no aux cores changes the cpu aspect for sure if i were to play just your mod (my bad on the cpu aspect of other comment when compairing with use of aux cores but still feel thrust is unbalanced though either way as i havent even gotten to the aux cores yet on my survival game yet)
Mass: 572kg
Power Consumption: 160
Thrust: 330
CPU: 250
Hitpoints: 275
Boost: 0
SV Large Jet Thruster (3x7x3)
Mass: 2430kg
Power Consumption: 810
Thrust: 1992
CPU: 1550
Hitpoints: 3200
Boost: x1.85
One LJT is worth 6.2 ALTs in CPU.
6.2 ALTs have a combined mass of 3456.4kg (45% more mass than one LJT)
6.2 ALTs have a combined energy consumption of 992kW (22% more than one LJT)
6.2 ALTs have a combined thrust output of 2046kN (2.7% more than one LJT)
6.2 ALTs have a combined hitpoint value of 1705hp (87% less hp than one LJT)
One LJT increases in thrust (x1.85) to 3685kN while boosting and exceeds the maximum speed cap of ALTs by 30%.
Those Advanced Large Thrusters are inferior in every way to their equivalent worth of Large Jet Thrusters when you factor in the mass vs own mass of the thrusters.
The larger thrusters operate on efficiency. That is because if you just make them scale quadratically like vanilla, the larger thrusters become unusable. The LJT in vanilla produces so much thrust, consumes so much CPU and power that it's physically impossible to use more than one without bordering the CPU limit and provides more thrust than a CV thruster 4x it's size to push a ship that on average weighs no more than 25T with a thruster designed to move 2.7kT.
It's not imbalanced, it's just not to your build style.
