Vespula Species
Vespula Overall

Vespula are a hive species that differ a bit form normal hive species. Males are the protectors and from within the nest the females take care of the eggs and gather the ores and stones they eat. Males will gather the meat that helps supplement their meals. Based on where a hive is located it will generate different resources.

Placing them in mountains will yield more metal, crystal and obsidian than if they were placed in any random location. And placing them on beaches or something similar will not yield any metal, crystal, or obsidian at all.

Females will spawn with eggs in their nests (a max of 2 if 2 females spawned) And each female can spawn 10 males. (so a max of 20 in wild nests). In order to tame them you must steal an egg from the nest... but this is a dangerous task as each species has a unique way of dealing with intruders.

Vespula Desertum

This is the origin species, it is native to scorched each and it specializes in paralysis. Females will instantly paralyze any creature that gets too close to them for 5 seconds while males have to build up to paralyze the enemy. Paralysis build up is based on the drag weight of the creature (so the heavier it is the longer it will take to paralyze). After being paralyzed creatures gain a 5 second immunity to the BUILD UP of paralysis and not the paralyzed buff itself.

Vespula Silva

The tropical sub species of Vespula Desertum. They deliver a potent venom that stacks the more you are hit by them. While it does eventually cap it is still quite debilitating and fully capable of dealing a large amount of damage if you carelessly let it build up. Females apply much more damage to the poison total than males do.

Vespula Antrum

The Aberration sub species. They cause the freezing spore effect that the mushrooms cause. While it has a shorter duration it is much more deadly. It will cause a players temperature to drop at an alarming rate and it causes torpor. If not careful even if you managed to escape from the swarm you will pass out and freeze to death. For dino's however it only deals torpor... the torpor can get pretty bad if left alone so be extremely careful what creatures you use to tank the swarm... they may not wake up for awhile.

Vespula Vastitas

The Extinction sub species. They use sulfuric acid to melt their enemies which is fully capable of shredding through the armor of any survivor and melting down the defenses of any creature. They will cause the creature to take more and more damage as the buff persists until the damage the creature takes is almost unbearable.

All the species can be mixed in a single nest once tamed. (but only a maximum of 3)
They females have a radial menu option to build a nest and once it's built other females can be invited into the nest by bringing them close to one and choosing the option "Transfer to nest" The only way to remove females from a nest is to destroy the nest itself so make sure you like its location! Females can also (if you so choose) activate a kill switch to kill all males attached to them in the area as long as they are unstasised. This will cause the female to immediately start repopulating the males that were killed.

[Possible future mechanics.]

  • Ability to repair structures but only metal and stone structures.
  • Giving females metal structures or items will cause them to break them down into their original components at 100% refund.
  • Males being able to take slightly more complex orders than the basic whistle commands.
