Ok, so your minimap has grid numbers on it, you'll pick the grid square with the first two clicks, check the numbers against the map. You'll then get options for 10 different horizontal and vertical lines, where they intersect is where (approximately) the artillery is going to fire when you finish calling it in.

Estimating is hard so I just used a screenshot to manually add a 10x10 grid to help get my coordinates more accurate.

awe man my minimap doesnt have a grid, its like the regular map from the base game.. perhaps i did something wrong?

Hey, Ive used the Universal Grid System method on a Topographical map to pin point a location with a six figure GR (Grid Reference). Select the first three figures using the Eastings (Numbers from West to East), the grid square numbers are easy but then break that square into ten equal parts. Zero would be on the line, then moving East to 1-9. Same thing with the Northings (Sth to Nth) for the next three figures. Adding additional grid lines could be an idea, I'll look into it.
