Framerate Issues.
Whenever I get gassed, so many effects get applied that my framerate drops really low, is there something I can do to reduce the effects or optimise them?

Unfortunately, there is no way that I know of. The main culprit is the the blur effect, which is irreplaceable, and I haven't been able to find a more efficient blur effect. The blur doesn't cause major issues on my computer, but i can understand it may be problematic on lower end computers. Sorry.
