BOB, the Tree and Prop Replacer 1.0.1
Gimme 30 May, 2021 @ 9:47am
A Feature Wishlist
This is one of the best tools for modding. Its ability to handle prop and tree replacement is superior to anything you can compare it to in spite of the fact it doesn't quite do all of what they do collectively. It is honestly just a few steps away IMO from removing the need for other similar mods. It that vain here is a wishlist for features I wish were present and would take this mod to the next level.

As I didn't this code and I have no desire to attempt to, please take this as a polite request and not a demand by any means. If any seem outlandish forgive me, as far as I know they are already existing features of other mods, so my assumption would be that it is possible, though I admit I have no idea how difficult to implement.

1) It had a global access without having to click on a building or road first.

- Mod window opens, then click on whatever. This way we can choose replacement packs or other global settings independent of clicking on a specific network or building.

2) Prop and Tree Anarchy as a checkbox within the BOB UI window. This would work great in conjunction with 1).

3) A Revert All button (

- Split like the Replace Buttons. Revert This Network or Revert All Networks. As it stands now it seems that the data is being stored to revert per network, so it feels like a natural evolution, and a very useful one.

4) A simple way to restore everything to default settings. Maybe a separate button, since that is more comprehensive than Revert All.

5) The ability to replace traffic lights as packs the same as other packs.

- BOB can technically do this but it is very tedious, and would require setting up a variety of intersections and roads to make sure all of the traffic lights are in the right positions. There is a mod that does this already: Traffic Light Replacer - https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2414025775

However it doesn't play as nice with other things as BOB, while on the surface appearing to do very similar things. Seeing as BOB already has a pack function implemented, I'm not sure if this is possible but would be a robust feature to include.

6) The ability to do the missing things Network Skins 2 does, Like replace pillars (choosing tunnel entrances too would be nice but that's being greedy), tint networks, etc... I know that BOB is designed to play nice with NS2, but it would be nice to reduce the load by incorporating the few features it has that BOB doesn't.

I'm looking at the future wishfully hoping there is a point where this and RON are all someone needs to handle network changes and prop changes all around. This is an amazing mod with a great UI and solid performance.

My feature request/suggestion for this wonderful mod is an option to apply changes to:
- the current instance only
- all instances in the current city only
- all instances in any savegame (which is how the mod works now, if I understand correctly)

Much of this is already on the to-do list:
- Global access button
- Revert all buttons (although maybe slightly differently to what you're thinking - replacements need to be reverted, not just individual networks)
- Restore to default button (you can already do this via the configurations panel in the options menu, but I understand it's a bit confusing and I want to rework the way the configuration works for 1.0 - in fact, that's now the pacing item for 1.0)
- Traffic light packs

For skins, it's currently planned that BOB will be the successor to Network Skins. That's post-1.0, though.

And yes, everybody wants individual building instances.

However, 'Prop and Tree Anarchy' is already toggleable with the Prop Anarchy mod - adding an additional toggle within BOB is not only redundant, it adds all sorts of technical difficulties and potential problems. So I'd need a very good reason to justify the risks and costs before looking at it.

Clear, thank you and all the best with further development!

Hey I'd love a favorite Button and menu so I don't have to always look through my giant list of trees to find the few I want for a specific theme

It's on the list! No ETA, though, sorry.

What about being able to move elements with the mouse while BOB is active instead of using numerical values?

Also, a "duplicate" option to make it easier to add an element in the same X/Z/Y position?

This is a great mod for sure, thanks for keep enhancing it.

Direct mouse control is on the "really neat idea that I wish was possible, maybe one day but definitely not soon" list (very tricky and lots of work).

Just to clarify - "duplicate" being adding a new prop/tree?

LOL.. Ok! Got it.

Yes, pick an already prop/tree on the left side and click a "duplicate" button and it will add the same prop/tree at the same coordinates, probability, etc Hope this clarifies.

Prop Remover included might be nice. Getting rid of those Clownheads, Squirrel, Steam etc., like the original Mod but a bit more powerful

You can already do that with BOB; just select the ones you want hidden and, well, hide them.

Besides traffic lights replacement packs I would love to see one based around street lights

Talking about street lights, could BOB be persuaded to work on roads? It would be great to remove lights (and other props) from them, without needing another mod (Network Skins). I don't like it when my cims have to drive through a parking machine when they drive up to a store for example 😉

It already does.
