BOB, the Tree and Prop Replacer 1.0.1

Some Problems and Suggestions
1. When you did replaced, then you click other one and click back, you can't see those datas what you changed. That's because mod can't real-time update from "BOB-config.xml", the changed datas can saw in "BOB-config.xml".
For example, you changed a prop' X offset, and you clicked other prop name and click back, you will see nothing, the X offset shows you zero.

2. The name. When you did replaced, same like "1." and you will see like that 'AAA (now AAA)', but it should shows you like that '[v]BBB (now AAA)'. And when click 'Revert', it will only shows you 'AAA', and you need do like changed offset then you will see 'AAA (now AAA)'.

3. Select with mouse function. That's means you can use mouse left key to select props or trees and move than position, right key to rotation them and use PageUp or PageDown to adjust high.

4. Probability. After you did offset first, than you set Probability, all offset be changed to original position, that's because the '1.' affecting. And for me, I set below 70, it's disappeared. and under 70 to 100, nothing happened.

5. Add items icon shows. If mod can show a thumbnail for both not just text, it will more great for replacement.

6. Adding function. If mod can got a 'Adding' function, that's means if I want to add some props or tree to this building, the mod can let me done this.

7. In "BOB-config.xml" file, can't see map tree replacment items infomation.

8. Mod need a draggable icon button for click. First, hotkey will conflict with other mods (For example, now the Alt+B will open "Forest Brush" too). Secondly, if something unknown happens, pressing hotkey is useless, then it cannot be used directly.

9. It can add 'transparent adjust slider' to adjust from 0% - 100%

10 Add 'Replace Selector Color' for when you click left side prop or tree, it should show be selected as color like "Move It". This may help easy to see what's this when the building got lots of them.

11. A sort for top of both side, when click 'Name' props or trees will followed from A to Z display.
For example,
[V]AAA
[V]ABBBB
[V]ACCCC
[V]ADDDD
[V]BAAA
[V]BDDD
[V]BEEE

12. Add seach bar for left side too, because when '6.' finished, after that there are many props or trees in this building be added by player, so got a seach bar may help.

13. Add 'Scale' option can adjust.

Problem 1 and 2 and 4 has been solved after update to 0.4.2

And BIG Problem 7 still there, this problem means after you replaced trees in map, and nothing information saved in "BOB-config.xml" file, when you loading save and all replaced trees in map back to default.

And after first step did replaced for a item, then click 'Show individual props' and modify replaced item and got error result like change offset, and also can't reset. And the name shows wrong too, for example, correct display like that "[V]XXXX", this error made show "[V]" gone and only name.

(And you need check look all mods with "Harmony 2.0.1" and need to update to new "Harmony 2.0.4")

Sorry, for late response, didn't see this thread until now (Steam doesn't notify my of new threads).

Please bear in mind that is still *very* early development and most of my planned features aren't in yet.

As you say, 1, 2, and 4 have all been fixed.
3 is on the list, yes. But is quite complex and will take a while (and may not even be feasible in the end).
5 is also on the list.
6 is also on the list.
7 - map tree reversion data is stored in the game savefile, not the config file. This is because it is save-specific, not global, and it currently makes no sense (and will break things) if stored globally. A global replacement option is *likely* at some point in the future; the final state of map tree replacment has not yet been settled (again, lots of complications about how map trees are savegame specific; they're not like building or network trees).

For your subsequent post, I can't comment on your third paragraph without an output log showing what happened, sorry.

This mod does not package Harmony in any version and instead uses (as it should) boformer's Cities Harmony API, so no specific update is required. An update to the packaged Cities Harmony is occuring with version 0.4.3, but just to make clear, mods do *NOT* have to specifically update. There is a lot of misinformation out there about the Harmony update from people who have *no idea* how things actually work.

OK, great hear!

And when you created BOB mod, "Prop it Up" retired and it can make prop and tree disappear when replaced than 2 at same time.
(By the way, "Prop it Up" did map tree replacement info to .xml and fine. And save info to savefile that's also good for every different map, and also need to think about if unsubscribe mod and broken save or not.)


And the translation was early, so it need to add those in "zh.xml" of 0.4.3.

Thanks for the updated translations - will add them now.

Yes, Prop It Up had a strange hybrid for recording, which (unfortunately) would occasionally break things. I may end up with something similar, but I'm still mapping out which ways are the most robust and flexible - certainly by the time version 1.0 comes around, *something* will be in that space. Just not sure exactly what yet - it depends on what proves to work best!

I think BOB can be the best replacement mod!

You can combine other replacement like change 'building, props, trees' color, open textures from local hard disk to game for replacement with in-game etc......

And this change color not like "Repaint", now "Repaint" change color only got from assets 'Main Bounding Box', that's means some 'Main Bounding Box' of assets is whole building and some assets only like a roof, a wall or a small prop, and can't got better color change.

So, if BOB add the 'Advanced Color Change' function, you can pick any props even trees(Leaves and trunk) in this building to change color, also same way to change textures for them and with "6." suggestion to add also including decal, light etc.......

And also got 'Advanced Texture Change', to export original whatever selected or whole to a png file, and edit it then reload.

Then, BOB will be the best replacement mod.

PS: New 0.4.3, not transparent window by default, and click like 'underground mode' and swicth back the transparent window back.

And "2." problem again. Before start replacement, enabled 'Show individual props' and do replace and adjust offset( '-' and '+' both) and angle( '-' and '+' both), after finished replace then disable 'Show individual props', you will see "2." problem again.

Yes, issue re-emerged when code was refactored for the update. It was fixed for networks, but not (yet) for buildings, as I felt it was best to get things out quickly due to the Network Skins fix and the Harmony update - plus I want to take a different direction with the names and indications.

There will be a 0.5.1 along in the next few days that will sort out tha issue.

This mod works great but for some reason it always misses a lot of the parking spots on the university buildings. It will detect most of them, but there's always some parking props it simply doesn't list. Any way to fix?

If the building has sub-buildings (the bigger university ones all do, I believe), when you select the building in BOB there'll be a sub-building selection menu at the top of the panel above the prop selection list. Use that to select the various sub-buildings.

Thank you!! I didn't know this, this solved everything. Thank you so much for this amazing mod, its really made so many vanilla buildings actually usable once their tacky props are stripped away.

not sure if this issue was posted, I loaded my game and all went fine. But when I was getting ready to save the game after about 15 or 20 minutes of playing I hit load instead of save. When the game loaded it stated BOB ran into an error with some of the placements. I was unable to really get more then that,. the controls of the game disappeared but the text was showing and not responding... Sorry I how you can recreate the error using one of your saved games! if not let me know. ;-)

@iPlayKreator8 As with all modded C:S games, you shouldn't reload from within the game (always exit to desktop first). If you do it accidentally, you should immediately quit the game without saving, otherwise you could corrupt the savefile.

A lot of mods will break if you do the second-load, including BOB (BOB will just be a bit noisier about it than others, who will just fail quietly in the background and slowly break your city).
