gonna be testing that out myself now...
even if its spawning like pistol i think its too much, will be fair if its rare like katana. but dont listen to me, its your tweak, il just ignore them and will not pick em up
The hand crossbow spawn rate is something that I have yet to test now that you mention it.
No specific promises on changing it since it has lower chances of spawning than a pistol which I think it's fair.
and about the hunting crossbows spawn rate, well, that was my own mess. I forgot to do something with the "hunting crossbows spawning script" and because of it, said script would override the vanilla file of attached weapons.
In other words, instead of getting a screwdriver attached to a zed or an axe you would always get a hunting crossbow no matter what xD
it's fixed now and the update has been uploaded yesterday alongside with some fancy new features.
you should be seeing less hunting crossbows and thanks to the latest update you can now salvage crossbow for scrap metal and rope which is totally useful for crafting more bolts!
dont wanna sound like a boring man but...isnt it a right way to create long bolts using blowtorch (just a liiiiiiitle amount) instead of glue. bolt parts all craftable by scrap metal an then BOOM you need to glue them together, not weld.
Like, I have that type of glue lying around my house and so I glued my metal glasses with it. works like a charm as well let me tell ya.
jokes aside (Actually it's not a joke, I did sorta weld my glasses to together with glue), I've gone for glue as a recipe requirement because it's a pretty common item. The easiest the recipe, the better.
Having to worry about using a blowtorch and filling it with gas makes it so much of a burden that the idea of getting bolts out of corpses becomes a waaaay better solution. (And since I'm fairly new to PZ modding, I don't know how to make a recipe consume little amount of blowtorch uses).
of course, if there's something I CAN do, is adding the blowtorch item as an alternative to glue. like: if you have glue you can use it sure, BUT, if you have a blowtorch you can replace glue with it.
if it sound good, I can give it a thought or two and some playtest to see how it all rolls out.
thats super cool, alternative, i like it
as you see above i have a bunch of modes, so refiling blowtorch isnt a problem (Def's Long Term Survival - have a refil recepie) plenty of people using such modes, i think its do not ruin realism/roleplay
of course, the idea of a blowtorch as an alternative for glue makes total sense and I liked it.
So! an update has been released just now and blowtorch is now an alternative for glue!
thanks for updates. now i have real steal bolts. maybe i have a glitch, does blowtorch consume during craft? made 12 bolts (2 times 6) and torch still like new
you will have to make several bolts to see the blowtorch go off.
of course, this is not intentional, the code just works that way and I haven't found a solution to not make it work like that. I'll try bashing my head on my keyboard for a bit to see if I find a way of increasing the blowtorch cost value, but no specific promises as I don't know much about lua.
A possibility could be to make the fletching from feathers and glue (or just include feathers in the bolt recipe).
Feathers could be obtained by cutting open pillows, and from butchering birds caught in traps
I belive most of modern crossbow uses plastic or another light-weight material for their bolt fletching.
This "plastic fletching" is mostly known as "vanes". Do a little serch on google and you'll get what I mean.
My initial thought on fletching was making a feather based recipe, but you'll see, those are hard to obtain. Hunting takes time and pillows don't respawn.
So I went for a scrap metal recipe since the vanes could be made out of tin or another light metal.
If I had to make a feather recipe for the bolts, that would make the whole thing boring. Like, crossbow are already not so deadly (worse than a firearm at least), slow and limited in so many ways that adding a whole long process to make bolts out of feather makes them useless since getting a box of 30 bullets out of a corpse is far more reliable than wasting a week hunting for feathers.
(and yeah, don't use both this mod and kitsune's original mod at the same time or you'll have some errors here and there.)
Yeah, gathering feathers in order to craft 'homemade' bolts would be 'realistic', but as you say, boring (although I was thinking of stick traps, so feathers would be a byproduct of passive trapping/hunting).
The old 'realism versus fun' balance :)
