Feature request: Practice time
Edit 2: This mod now adds "training spells" for mages and fighters, which they can auto-cast from time to time to level up organically.

Original Post:
I noticed that my Medic leveled up very fast, since most of his abilities could be set to auto-cast. Other Classes (Not specifically your custom classes but original RoM classes aswell) require super tedious micromanagement, drafting them again and again and manually forcing them to cast their spells one by one to level them up. That's no fun and it's by far what I dread most when getting a new might/magic pawn.

That got me thinking. The enemy AI can actually auto-cast their offensive spells, not just the spells that I could set to auto-cast in my pawns. And the royalty DLC added a new category "meditation" on the timetable, in which pawns will seek out a good spot and practice their meditation.

Would it be possible to add a new timetable category in which the pawns will go to a designated spot and practice their spell casting, using the enemy AI to, for example, target a practice dummy? Since there is a toggleable auto-cast checkmark, maybe there could be an additional checkmark to designate spells that should be used in the practice sessions?

Alternatively maybe a "practice" work type.

This would not only be a tremendous quality of life improvement, but it would feel much more natural to tell the pawns "From 10 to 12 go practice your magic / might" than to draft them and manually force them to cast their spells one by one, just to level them up.

Edit: I just posted this in the main RoM-Mod discussion.

This. I've been sticking to pawns with AoE buffs and other passives that level up their class over time for my magic pawns, and my might pawns with shooting passions get super soldier serums and rifles, and the rest become faceslesses. IMO, there needs to be an automatic way to train the chump classes other than buying the magic exp crystals and mentoring, because those aren't even worth the time costs, let alone the clicks.

My post was from 2020. Nowadays this mod adds "training spells" for mages and fighters which they use automatically from time to time. It's very useful.

Thats a feature in base RoM, too, but the only one that works properly from my testing is Blink- and it only gives 15 exp for 15 mana... so it's no better than letting the mage idle at full mana. You have to equip the mage with enchanted clothing, magic apparel, ect. to increase the mana efficiency, cooldown and EXP yield of the spell in order to make autocasting Blink better than idling, but at that point, you'll have the mana regen and cost reduction to do useful things, such as spamming dirt devils to keep the base clean. Sadly, despite having an autocast option, I can't get dirt devil to actually autocast, but it seems that manually casting spells results in 3x EXP yields anyways, so I'll likely stick to legioning my pawns to use Bladespin and my mages to use dirt devil.

Nope, not what I meant. This mod adds two dedicated spells/abilities called "Magic Training" and "Martial Training" that any mage/fighter can learn. They can be set to auto cast and give a good chunk of XP every time, much better for leveling than blink in my experience. And if you don't want to babysit and micro manage your mages/fighters, they are a good option. Especially since the pawns don't need to be drafted and can still do other work, while leveling their skills between jobs.
