Bubble escort

i have made it to the bubble escort step several times and almost every time just steps before id reach the final spot it almost seems like the zombies are no longer taking damage and will even still attack without their heads. has anyone else had this issue or is it just me?

So i guess I somehow activated the bubble step WAY ahead of the time it was supposed to??? I could still kill Zombies and whatnot, but the bubble just floated around the map and did nothing.
