I published this gamemode ahead of schedule for a strange reason. While in development for this game, I decided that real-world research would be the best way for me to understand ghost hunting and the equipment used. I contacted a local ghost hunting crew near my home and they allowed me to join them on their next outing to an abandoned asylum which previously housed psychiatric patients. Initially everything went very well, the crew were a group of nice people and seemed eager to teach me what their hobby was all about. We entered the asylum and proceeded to set up equipment and explore the endless rooms and corridors. Eventually the crew’s leader suggested we do an Ouija board session. If I knew then what I now live with, I would have strongly declined.

The Ouija board session started out as anyone would expect, we put aloof our hands on the planchette and asked generic questions, “who are you? and “did you die here?”. Nothing was happening, that is until I began to ask questions. I asked questions about the asylum and how patients were treated. The spirit would answer back mostly with “yes” or “no”. I was convinced that the crew members were moving the piece, and asked them to remove their hands. They advised against using the board alone, but I insisted. It was then that I really felt the piece being moved by an external force. The planchette began moving in circles around the board, scared as ♥♥♥♥ I pulled my hands back and nearly ran out of the room.

The investigation concluded and the crew was really pleased about the evidence we had gathered there and so was I really. It wasn’t until the next day I really began to wonder about what I had experienced. I felt odd, out of place, and tired. With my curiosity excited, I researched Ouijia board seances. It turns out that I really did everything wrong, and most critically did not close the connection between myself and the spirit I was communicating with. Every time I would work on this gamemode I would start to feel something watching me, influencing my creations. I had to take a break from the development just to feel a bit normal again. I’m planning on visiting a medium to hopefully have the connection severed, I’ll post updates soon. I do hope everyone enjoys what I managed to complete though.
