My #1 Recommendations - Favorite Campaigns
I couldn't fit this on the main page, so here are my personal recommendations out of all the campaigns I've reviewed so far.

HAUNTED FOREST
This is my favorite custom campaign of all time, and it was my biggest inspiration to start mapping. It's a well paced campaign at its core and it elevates itself with spooky Halloween charm. Some parts are janky due to the campaign's age, but it's easy to look past the flaws in this camp horror masterpiece.

COLD FRONT
This campaign was released the year L4D2 turned 15, and it shows. The dozens of people in the credits for Cold Front have clearly honed their modding skills to perfection. Oodles of custom assets support a wonderful wintery atmosphere, and the highly advanced custom NPC and unique finale with multiple endings are like nothing else on the workshop.

SUICIDE BLITZ
An easy contender for the most high quality custom campaign ever made, which is quite a feat for something released in 2011. Suicide Blitz is fun to explore, easy to navigate, and filled with action set pieces that are bombastic and memorable. It's also bursting with personality as a bonus — what's not to love about killing zombies with a foam finger?

REDEMPTION
This one simultaneously feels as polished as an official campaign while also being unabashedly "custom" in its premise. Your journey through a secret laboratory in the mountains will see you chatting with voiced NPCs and completing a variety of unique events. It's goofy, imaginative, and it all just works.

CAMBALACHE - BUENOS AIRES
This campaign came out in 2021 and yet it's already one of my favorites. It's extremely creative and full of personality, with tons of unique gameplay scenarios that all work as intended. Any campaign that lets me restore my health by sipping tea gets a thumbs up. There's also a sequel that's just as good!

THE BLOODY MOORS
A spooky crossover that puts werewolves and zombies together in the English countryside. This campaign is long, challenging, and intricately designed, but the genuinely creepy atmosphere and unforgettable moments make it fun the whole way through. If you've ever seen the movie Dog Soldiers, you'll love this!

I HATE MOUNTAINS
It's famous for a reason! This campaign is a cut above the rest in terms of detail and level design, and somehow it manages to push Left 4 Dead's gameplay in new directions while still feeling natural and vanilla.

DEADBEAT ESCAPE
One of those rare custom campaigns that stands out because of its exceptional level design -- and it looks great, too! Most campaigns have buildings, streets, and so on built at rigid right angles, but Deadbeat Escape bucks the trend. Its densely detailed levels flow along unexpected twists and turns through curvy trails and complex architecture that's full of surprises.

FATAL FREIGHT
Gorgeous visuals and smart level design make this one an easy favorite, and it's probably one of the most underrated campaigns I've ever played. 99% of the time, this feels like something Valve made.

ENERGY CRISIS
The only campaign that's more underrated than Fatal Freight. This campaign has creative level design and superb gameplay balance along with environments that feel expansive and believable.

BLIGHT PATH and ROADKILL
These two campaigns were both made by the same person, and they share some things in common. Roadkill is a polished journey along an American freeway with a few brand new mechanics to spice things up, and Blight Path is an extremely creative adventure through mainland China with NPC soldier enemies, a crafting system, and more. Roadkill is definitely better on a technical level, but I have a soft spot for Blight Path's uniqueness.

Roku's RESIDENT EVIL Quadrilogy: RE1, RE2A, RE2B, RE3
These campaigns are a tough sell for people who aren't familiar with the games they're based on, but I simply must give them a mention. I love Resident Evil, and I'd recommend all four of these to any fan of the series. The translation to Left 4 Dead is consistently inventive and charming with superb atmosphere throughout.
