TDC Attack without Periscope (Help)
I really want to love the mod but lately the game seems to only let me find suitable targets (September 1939) at night where the periscope is useless (Playing on Realism because I hate myself) and I've read that you can use the TDC from just the map without needing to lock onto a target with a periscope but this is where I am having issues.

1. I know the targets speed
2. I know the AOB
3. I know their distance from me.
4. I toggle the switch for the Torpedo Tube panel to use the TDC.
5. My bearing is almost parallel with the targets course.

My torpedos either run straight and overtake the target and thus miss or their turn in the wrong direction after launching and miss.

Only thing I can think of is I am not using the Bearing dial correctly since I don't have to use it during the day because I just have the TDC follow the Periscope but at Night this isn't possible.

The manual says I use it to set the Targets bearing but I am having difficulty figuring out which bearing does it mean, the Targets Course or the direction of the target from the sub? It seems regardless of which I try to go off of the torpedo still misses and when I try and look up videos all I find are how to use the TDC with the periscope.

You must enter the realtive bearing into the TDC. That is the angle of the target ship off your bow. Use the big wheel in the corner to set the target bearing, it should be displayed on the two dials on the right. Set the lever on the right to off (Nicht Folgen - blue light)

When I do that the torpedo still ends up running straight and or just slightly off and ends up overtaking the target. I can believe that is happening because I have entered the bearing wrong on the dial, so is there an accurate way I can find that out from the map?

Couldn't reproduce.

Manually entered target bearing 290°, AoB starboard 60°, range 20hm, speed 7.5kn

Result: gyro angle = 300° (60° off the port bow)

Torpedo fired, it correctly turned 60° to port:

Continued on course to the calculated intercept point, 40m off due to parallax:

So it was my misunderstanding on how to use the dial. But is there a way using map tools I can calculate the bearing? Can I do the same method used for finding the AOB? Or is it just a matter of eyeballing it and hoping you chose correctly?

I did manage to score a hit after launching a salvo of two torpedos based off an assumed ship length of 100 meters (didn't know the exact ship class but since all the freighters are over 100 meters long I figured why not)

Unrelated but I've seen in videos when people are using the Compass to determine AOB they are able to place the points or "Snap" them directly onto their ship and the target ship on the map but the game won't let me do this, I have to place the points somewhere else and then drag them to where I need them.

I've also found that sometimes when I'm switching between two different screens that the gyro angles randomly get reset to the their default 'due north' positions. Which results in the torpedo firing straight ahead.

Also don't forget that while the blue light is on, none of the target information you enter is being automatically calculated towards a firing angle.

Finally, even if you're using darker nights, as long as you know the general location of the enemy ship relative yours like via the hydrophone + map, you can still mostly find it via periscope and lock.

It may be impossible to use the periscope tools to get speed/distance due to the darkness, but at least you can be locked on for the purpose of the TDC calcs.

it's worth watching out for that. And remember when the blue ligh
