FIX FOR CTDs DURING LOADING SEQUENCES
We recently found the reason for frequent crashes during loading sequences and level transitions on the following maps:
as_c2map01
as_c2map02
as_c2map03
as_c3map01
as_c4map04
as_c5map03
as_c7map02

We're already working on a fix but as this issue is a little bit more complex and generally engine related it requires some time to implement it correctly.
Until our patch is ready you can stil continue playing by doing the following:
Go to: *\steam\steamapps\common\Black Mesa\asheep\materials\decals\
Delete all VMT and VTF files from Blood1 to Blood8 and their corresponding _subrect files.

This is just a provisorical fix for you and will not solve the problem to 100% but it will drastically reduce the frequency of CTDs in all the maps mentioned above.

Thank you all for your brilliant feedback and support so far! We will release a patch very soon(TM) that will address any bugs and issues you've found as well as additional gameplay improvements and overhauls.

how do you install this step by step

Deleting the mentioned files doesn't solve the issue at all for me.

@Cyvo I looked in the decals folder and there wasn't any files (Vmt or Vtf) that were titled "Blood1" through "Blood8"
However, I scrolled down and found numerous files titled "sl_decal_blood2.vmt/.vtf", going from blood2 to blood18.
there was also a folder within the decals folder titled "Blood", and in it there are a lot of files such as "How_You_Remind_Me.vmt/.vtf", "Last_note.vtf/.vmt", and "stop_big.vmt/.vtf". are any of these what you are referring to in the guide above?

@Mr. Champion: If you have the latest patch installed this issue is already fixed. However the crashes you encounter seem to have a different cause. Probably system dependable as the maps you mentioned in your report are actually the most stable ones.

So the problem is with my laptop, not the mod?
Cyvo  [developer] 4 Jan, 2021 @ 10:07am
Probably yes. Can you please post all your system specs? And did you ever encounter crashes in the main game as well?
Dr. Duct Tape 4 Jan, 2021 @ 10:44am
@Cyvo
Processor: Intel(R) Core (TM) i5-3340M CPU @ 2.70GHz
Installed RAM: 16.0 GB
(I use a second monitor as the main screen, instead of my laptop's screen, and I have it set to only use the second monitor's screen. I'll put both the monitor's graphics card and my laptop's here though. However, I will note that I have never played Black Mesa, or any mods of Black Mesa, on the laptop's screen.)
Laptop Graphics card: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
Monitor's graphics card: NVIDIA NVS 5200M
Please tell me if there is anything else you need.

I also haven't ever experienced CTD's in regular Black Mesa that I can recollect, especially not this consistently.

@Mr. Champion: Your specs seem to be ok. Just to check if this is map related or even mod related, could you copy one of the maps that crash on startup into your maps directory in your bms folder and start it in the main game? Don't worry if there are some missing textures and models. Oh and which UI do you use for launching the maps?
Dr. Duct Tape 4 Jan, 2021 @ 11:10am
@Cyvo So I take one of the Asheep maps (I'm going to use as_c4map05 as that's the one that has crashed everytime I tried to load it. I only had a chance to load c5map01 once before I had to go back to class.), and copying it into this directory: "Steam > Steamapps > Common > Black Mesa > bms > maps", correct? The only thing in that maps folder is another empty folder labeled "graphs". Sorry if I'm making this way more complicated than it needs to be, I'm just making sure I'm copying the Asheep map to the right place so I don't screw anything up.

Even if this doesn't work and I can't progress any further in Asheep than where I am now, thanks for your help anyways!

Also I was using the new UI.
Dr. Duct Tape 4 Jan, 2021 @ 11:20am
Oh, while I'm at it @Cyvo, do you want me to copy over c4map04 as well and see if the map load between it and c4map05 works in normal BM?
Dr. Duct Tape 4 Jan, 2021 @ 11:28am
Ok that's interesting. If for no other reason than to simply satisfy my curiosity, I tried loading chapter 6 in Azure sheep, and it worked then. After a second go at loading chapter 5, chapter 5 still crashed mid-load, however loading straight to as_c5map01b and as_c5map02 worked. @Cyvo. Don't know if this will help or not, but hopefully it will.
