Over the last few weeks, I've temporarily stepped away from my goal of getting dead god in repentance, with the intent of trying out the recently released fiend folio. after playing this mod for a solid 36 hours, i think I've seen about enough to give my honest thoughts on the mod as a whole.


Lets start off with the most easily praisable aspects of the mod: The visual design, and overall art direction.

Sweet LORD does this mod look good.

The spritework is insanely good. there's no debate here. Everything looks detailed, yet simple, and it all blends together so well, while staying Relatively faithful to Rebirth's Art style. the only real nitpick i have here is that some of the enemy sprites are a bit too overtly detailed, which sticks out when you, say, walk into a room with a combination of Vanilla and FF Enemies together.

Not really much to touch on here, the audio is pretty good. Enemies sound nice for the most part, but its nothing special.

Welp, we had to get here eventually, so let me just rip the band-aid off quickly.

More than half the enemies In FF are just, Not fun to fight. in the slightest.

The reasoning varies (I.E being way too fast or eratic, having a harsh difficulty spike for the point where they appear, way too many of them spawning at once, ect.) But they all share of underlying issue of creating Artificial difficulty that, frankly, isnt fun to triumph and overcome.
At its worst, This affects ENTIRE FLOORS (I.E the entirety of chapter 1 and necropolis).
im sorry, but if you're going to plaster the enemies, the mods main selling point, in the TITLE of your mod, you should probably make sure that you make them fun.

I mean... its fine.
There's nothing all that special about them. a lot of the ideas done here have been done before, with the exception of a few standouts. a lot of items are either just plain stat upgrades or "do X effect when Y condition is met". Mostly well balanced, but nothing Unique enough to really mention. Same goes for The Fiend. its just fiend from the devils harvest with a few tweaks. Its fine, it works, but that's all i can say about it.

honestly, i feel pretty mixed about this mod. its obvious that a lot of time and effort was put into this, and i commend the developers for their work. i feel like at the end of the day, whether this mod is worth your time is up in the air. I would suggest trying it out, and seeing if what FF has to offer is for you. Me personally, Its not my cup of tea, but i can see and respect why others enjoy it.

TLDR; Needs some work in a few areas, but Good mod!
