Crashing repeatedly

was on version 1.8.2 on Mac and the game works for like a few minutes, but a little bit after I start a war as the Black Sun the game crashes. I looked for fixes and some old comments said to set it to version 1.6.0, but that flat out don't load the game up before it crashes. Any fixes known?
