Concerns about the newest update.
Decided to put all my comments here, as to not clutter the main page. So, here goes...

Yeah, as I feared. It wasn't a good idea. https://i.imgur.com/enGhhmc.png
It's essentially that one horrible mod integrated into the base game now.

https://i.imgur.com/HoNlWmo.png Their armored vest isn't assigned to their chest, so they can wear that, plus normal ones for double protection! Benefits, people!

Can't wait for the monsters that'll come up when hospitality visitors start emptying shelves from all the random ♥♥♥♥ that WAS NOT designed for their race.

Not that I don't appreciate the thought, cause I do, but it just looks awful. I'd take restrictive layers a thousand times over this. They can't wear custom mod-added stuff cause it's all misaligned, they can't wear custom accessories cause they're misaligned, what was the idea behind this update by the way?

https://i.imgur.com/6jT5zp0.png Last one. It's amazing. :D

https://i.imgur.com/aI6LzVg.png Brace yourselves. Cold is coming! It almost looks good. She can't see anything, her spine will give in in a second, and her tiny naked feetsies are still visible, so that's nice.

I'll add more as I explore my massive wardrobe.

The point of removing the restriction was a first step towards removing a hack that required custom layers. Obviously wearing clothes not designed for Kurin will cause graphical anomalies like the ones you posted, but that's not a problem with Kurin, it's mod incompatibilities.

Regardless, this will fix other mod incompatibles in the short term, such as with SoS2.

MOD incompatibilities. It's not their entirely custom body shape designed to work with hand-tailored custom clothing that's the problem? It's EVERYONE ELSES VANILLA TAILORED clothing designed to work with VANILLA body types that's the problem?

Dude.

But sure, I guess working on addons adding more clothing, space suits and whatnot would take more time, so ♥♥♥♥ it, open the floodgates. Abandon the mod integrity...

I understand your concern, but you are putting us and other modders in an impossible situation. We do not have the art capacity to remake all the Kurin assets in a way that it fits vanilla body types. Further, there is no magical standard that says our mod has to fit other mod art standards. To suggest otherwise is unreasonable.

I will point out that your complaint is with how clothes fit on Kurin bodytypes, yet in the same screenshot there is obvious clipping problems with vanilla apparel and the modded wardrobe storage. There is always code and art incompatibility when playing modded rimworld, so why not choose to overlook the graphical bugs in favor of enjoying the game?

My concerns are currently with mods integrity. You want your race to have custom body shape, then stick with your custom clothing. Everything else just looks ugly. And if you want your race to wear vanilla clothing, then what's stopping you from re-drawing their body instead? Clothing you already have probably?

Sitting on a fence. Eat cake and have cake?

Further, there is no magical standard that says our mod has to fit other mod art standards.
Kinda blows that the most universal art standard is that one of VANILLA GAME, you know. You can bark at me for using vanilla expanded, rimsenal, rimfeller, SoS, Royality, Ideology, CORE even, yeah hard to play without CORE RIMWORLD, you know, but it is YOUR mod that's not playing nice with EVERYTHING ELSE, not the other way around.

Unless you forgot why you had custom apparel layers in the first place.

As for shelves, and texture infighting, yeah, kinda blows. Dunno why clothing infights, when pallets with tons of different resources with different textures do not. Guess them laying at an angle has something to do with that.

https://i.imgur.com/qvbYSmf.png On a side note, you CAN make custom races wear vanilla clothing, but on BASE level they just need to use VANILLA body types.

If they do not, then simply be prepared to deal with the consequences.

And YES, these outfits ARE mostly vanilla. Duster, Cowboy Hat, Marine and Cataphract armor ARE vanilla, believe it or not. Backpacks, Shield Belts, Bandannas and Flak Goggles ARE NOT.

And yes, you can see Vulpes noses sticking through helmets, Thrumkin tails being drawn over stuff they shouldn't, but it's not levels of literally ALL OF CREATION being horribly out of proportion and misaligned.

On an end note, cause I might sound like a total fkn prick, but I've been enjoying Kurins for years, you know? All that? It doesn't come from some... Dunno, maliciousness, I guess is the word? I really care about that mod. The rest of the patch? Great stuff. Shame, you absolutely can't perma neutral Battle Foxes anymore, but fair is fair. Custom ideoligions? Memes? Great addition. Hair fixes? Amazing. Bisexual? I've had this talk on reddit literally what, yesterday? All-female society I feel should be more open about their partnership preferences, right? Bugfixes, compatibility, what's moyo? Dunno, but good for everyone that's using them. Literally my only grip is just opening the floodgates for kurins to use literally all of vanilla clothing, when they've clearly weren't designed to do so. That is all.

no one said you have to use vanilla clothing on kurin. I sure don't. same applies for any other race that has a custom bodytype.

Again, I get where you are coming from. It's irritating that the body sprite does not fit with everything else, but you did make a major oversight with your criticism: that it's MY mod.

Me, MaroonToon, and others who have spent their time maintaining this mod know that we're basically resurrecting abandonware. The original author left for required military service, and with it the only artist who could reasonably change the art while preserving its original style. We do not have any way to adjust the body sprite without redoing many art assets from scratch (clothing, hats, body parts). We do not have any money to hire artists either. And further, bear in mind that this is a passion project done by people who love the original mod and do not want it to remain abandonware.

As your end note admitted, you might sound like a prick, and I will agree with you: you are coming off as a prick. Your criticisms are not constructive, but destructive. You repeatedly ask us to do something impossible given the team's current capabilities, and then say your concern is with the mod's integrity? I do not believe this is genuine.

In short, I'm sorry that you are dissatisfied with the art, but I cannot do anything about it. I also will not entertain this thread anymore.
