2.- Search for the factions you want & subscribe to them
3.- Start the game, the tutorial for example
4.- Open the ingame menu to buy tools, guns. soldiers, etc and you will see the new factions listed.

2 things you need to do to add support for some other faction. 1. Check if this faction has built in support, it's a Lua file like this one Psyclones.rte/FactionFiles/UL2/Psyclones.lua . If it has but you can't see this faction then just add a line with this faction to Factions\Factions.cfg. 2. If it's not compatible then you need to add your own compatibility Lua file, put it into Factions folder and add a line to Factions.cfg.

Some faction have built in support for VW but the files are not in the right paths, for those VW has specific support scripts you can see them in Support folder.

so this has been working for a lot of the inbuilt faction supports.
However, I am having difficulties adding in the more unique factions such as The Order and W40k space marines and Imperial Guard.
I noticed that there is 40k support built into the mod, but the factions dont appear when i place the lua file into the factions folder and remove the asterisk in the factions.cfg

Help would be most appreciated. Please and Thank you kindly

But i tried it but nothing happened :(
cause i don't know which faction do you have to put.
or the ship crashed because it's to heavy when i add all units in the entire faction.

Something weegee forgets to mention in his instructions, if the faction is already listed on the voidwanderers.rte/Factions/Factions.cfg file but has an asterisk in front of it, you need to remove the asterisk to make the faction show up.
