Bots?
Is there a way to get bots working in this gamemode?

since the gamemode is based off sandbox, you can enable sandbox mode and try spawning in zetas or lambdas, since theyre not real players, its like npcs that just mostly help you out, default bots are useless, lead bots break the game mode.

Ah, so that's the way to get bot into action. Just Zeta or Lambda.
