This is the most respectful, highly accurate, publicly available, 3 dimensional recreation of the original World Trade Center I've ever seen. This clearly wasn't just some sh*tpost made for 'da mems and lulz', and the fact that it offends you just because it exists in a game where it could be destroyed is a little sad. This map is a spectacle and a testament to how games can be used to visit things gone and days past; if you choose to take offense to that, I really don't know what to tell you other than I believe you're wrong.
This is exactly what I was thinking, I personally think it is in some ways insane to get mad or offended over this, this is a stunning recreation of an extremely iconic creation, just because someone did something terrible doesn't mean no one should ever be allowed to experience it in any fashion ever again.
Read what I said. Read it carefully. If you won't begrudge me to read my replies then don't reply to me.
If this was a recreation of 9/11, you might have a point; but this isn't that. This is a recreation of the World Trade Center. The World Trade Center ≠ 9/11.
The September 11th attacks targeted the World Trade Center(among other buildings), but the World Trade Center was more than just a target of a terror attack. It was an incredible complex, a masterful and beautiful sight towering over Manhattan, leaving a lasting mark on all those who visited. It was people's workplaces, an extremely notable tourist destination, and so incredible that people even felt compelled to have weddings there. The Austin J. Tobin Plaza(the area in front of the towers and enclosed by WTC 3-6) was a space for events, and gathering place of visitors staring up in awe and admiration at the two towers before they'd ascend the South Tower to view the gorgeous surroundings from above.
What I'm trying to say here is that if you wish to see the World Trade Center and see only death and sadness, that's your choice, but I(and it seems the map's creator) choose to see the structures as they were meant to be seen, not marred by evil acts, but appreciated for the marvels they were. I'd like to remember them in their brightest moment, not their darkest.
If we should sit in remorse and fear of what was done forever, we give Bin Laden and those who see as vile as he exactly what they seek; they'll have won, and fear will reign as they'd demanded it to. I hope you can live to remember the buildings and the victims for who and what they were, not for what was done to them. The World Trade Center was more than just what was done to it.
Do you equally get offended by the 1997 "Titanic"? By the school history books describing sacking of Rome? By Discoverys documentaries covering WWII (any wars really)?
WTC was a fascinating construction - and people all over the world admire it. Only, they can't, because there GONE now and leftover videos and photos are uncommon and often low quality - so recreations like this in games can be really only way to visit them now.
I don't think this map is evil and I don't think, that blowing them up to pieces in game is warcrime level of evillness (though personally I can understand, that can be viewed as offensive by those, who were involved with 9/11) - every player has to have their own judgement and conscience about it and that's all.
And I don't think this discussion is ridiculous either - it's good, that people discuss and people get emotional, that means they remember, but more over, that they still care. But eventually, when enough time will pass, it will become bare of powerful emotions and will be just another page in the history, like siege of Vienna, sinking of the Titanic, napoleonic wars etc.
I sure hope that if we were to look at your games library, we wouldn't see any war games. People died in every game based on a real war; your Battlefields and CoDs, bunch of RTS games etc.
Would be a shame if you were a hypocrite over this ONE mod, which doesn't even have people in it, just two empty buildings.
